Exactly. For example, Ronald Reagan installed his daughter Maureen as the RNC chairwoman. Nixon famously recalled George Bush from the UN ambassadorship in order to be RNC Chairman durin Watergate.

Incorrect. The nominee becomes head of the Party and if elected as President has historically chosen the party chairman. RNC delegates have generally gone along with the POTUS's pick, but Donald Trump is not really a Republican.
