Donald Trump's political home in his native New York City is several miles and a ferry ride from Trump Tower.
Staten Island, New York's self-proclaimed "forgotten borough," is a hidden bastion of Republicanism in of the nation's most liberal cities, separated from the rest of the city both geographically and politically. A sprawling suburb of low-rise buildings that resembles the towns of neighboring New Jersey, Staten Island has long been isolated from the bustling metropolis.
It takes $16 in tolls to cross the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge from Brooklyn to Staten Island. Many tourists who ride the iconic free Staten Island ferry never depart the terminal and simply wait for the next boat back to Manhattan. And for decades, the island's most recognizable landmark was a dump that took most of the city's garbage and was once the largest landfill in the world.

Welcome home, Mr. Trump. Thanks for posting this article.
Trump should buy St George and do it right. Stunning views of Manhattan.
Hometown ping :)
Staten Island? :)
I dropped if people in my cab there a bunch of times.
Went down and couldn’t get close.
But I’m glad he came :)
I visited N.Y. once. Took the bridge over to Staten Island, and thought the guy was joking when he asked me for $16.00. This was about 18 years ago. I literally pulled over after I got off the bridge into a strip shopping center and asked some stranger if the toll guy saw my out of state license and pulled a fast one on me. He told me no, that’s the actual amount. I’m sure the bridge has long been paid for. It’s ridiculous that bridge users should have to bare such a disproportionate amount of the Hwy Dept. budget. Besides the ferry, is there any other way to get into the city from Staten Island?
yeah, the 13 dollar toll on the Goethals lol.
We get a steep discount but the toll was only supposed to be used until the bridge was paid off.
But we got them starving Obama sons and daughters in the Bronx and Brooklyn to feed.
one black councilwoman from the Bronx said “there should never be a toll on an intra borough bridge”
then someone let her in on the dirty little secret.
their council people are so dumb sometimes it hurts.
Is there some kind of annual pass you can purchase? Is that the discount you’re talking about?
no. you fill out a form and prove your a STaten Island resident and you get a discount on your ez pass.
