Calls to dump caucus, go with presidential primary echo from both sides of the aisle

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - With GOP frontrunner Donald Trump now bashing Colorado's caucus and convention system, there are indications that a change is in the works.

Lawmakers in Denver plan to soon introduce a bill that would scrap the caucus in favor of a presidential primary.

After a shutout here, Donald Trump is enraged.

Only the most active Colorado Republicans participated in the caucus and convention process leading some voters to cry foul.

"The process has really let us down this year," active GOP voter Eli Bremer said. "It really should be the primary voters in each state that pick our eventual nominee. What we're having are back room deals and things that Republicans, Democrats and Independents are quite frustrated with."

Only 6 percent of registered Republicans and Democrats voted in the Colorado Caucuses March 1.

In a presidential primary, many argue turnout would be much higher.

So Mr. Trump doesn’t even show up for the CO caucus then has the audacity to say it’s rigged?

Pathetic.

You appear to have matriculated at Trump University.

Caucuses can be rigged, but so can primaries.

Caucuses run and paid for by the parties can be closed.

However, primaries which are normally run by the state, can be forced open so that Dems can vote for Republicans and vice versa.

So be careful what you wish for. You'll most likely just be disappointed in a different way.

It amazes me that so many long-term rock-solid Freepers have fallen in lock step with Mr. Trump.

Presidential primaries have 56 different sets of rules (6 territories). The system has worked for 100 years. It’s a federalist based system. Flawed yes, but it’s better than any alternative.

For crying out loud!

The day after the March 1st Caucuses, both the State GOP and Dem Chairs agreed they want to return to Presidential Primaries.

Brilliant!

Rewrite the rules so lazy Trump gets another bite at the apple.

He didn’t organize in Colorado and refused to speak at the Assembly, so let’s back up and cater to the whiney baby.

Live and learn, I guess.

Seems to me they were more interested in saving money than anything else and not some GOPe conspiracy like some seem to think.

It amazes me that so many long-term rock-solid Freepers have fallen in lock step with Mr. Trump.

When I see comments like yours, I have to ask, seriously, why? Sure, he's a loose cannon, ill-informed on some issues (but a quick study on most), he is NOT a politician, and he wants to strike a blow against the "empire" that Washington has become for decades.

He is doing many of the things that FReepers have been crying for, praying for, for years and years and years.

You're a longtime FReeper, as am I. You know that getting an outsider in to confront the corruption that is Washington has been Job One forever around here.

Why do you fear someone -- in this case someone who has been beset by every freaking building code, every federal gaming regulation, every federal tax penalty, plus every state, local and federal government regulation ever invented -- who wants to BLAST this federal leviathan to submission, and make life better for every single "serf" who has been living under this federal tyranny for decades?

WHY do you feel this way?

“I’ve already stated that Cruz has lost it fair and square and should step aside for the sake of the country. If his continued efforts at thievery split and destroy the party, we’ll be saddled by Hillary or burned by Bernie.”

What do you mean?

The presence of TRUMP would not have affected the rigged caucus. It was rigged in August, where the plan was shaped and implemented, ready to execute in this weekend’s caucus.

Remember, TRUMP is not an insider, but rather a citizen candidate.

Like most Americans, he and we have never knowingly seen a candidate’s “Earned delegates” rejected outright and so summarily replaced, nation wide, with his opponents supporters instead, who plan to reject him.

This is happening at the grassroots level by a strategy put in place by a loser candidate with no path to 1237 himself, to stop the frontrunner.

If it works, the party is destroyed, and November is lost to Hillary, who will carry on with the UniParty goals, and the Republic is dead.

It started the day Mr. Trump attacked Dr. Ben Carson as “pathological”. Until then I was all in for Mr. Trump as my second choice behind Sen. Cruz.

Then I watched Freeper after Freeper, month after month, trash other candidates in lock-step with Mr. Trump. This isn’t the way thoughtful conservatives debated. At least not here on FR.

I have been a mild mannered Freeper for 16 years. No more. My goal is to get as many thoughtful conservatives to abandon the cult of personality Mr. Trump employs and push all Freepers to fully vet the two remaining viable candidates.

Some of my rhetoric has been harsh - but that’s because the Trumpettes here have been vile. I will support and vote for Trump if he’s the nominee. But fear a Clinton landslide should that be the case.

Bwaaaaaaa!

The smartest guy in America didn't read the rules (set four, count them p, four years ago) and everyone else knew, even John Kasich, so that must mean, "the game was rigged against Trump" - four years ago!

Bwaaaaaaaaa!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply.

You saw this, I would imagine:

http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3420363/posts

This government needs cleaned out, stem to stern. And if you think Cruz or Kasich can do it, more power to you.

My feeling is it’s time for a pure outsider who has been subject to Washington’s edicts in his own private business for decades to step in and raise a ruckus.

And I have a hunch he’d bring in a cabinet with that aim, too.

But, as I say, your call.

Thank you again for the reply.
