In February it was a Nissan Sentra doing 137 mph. And on Friday night a jet-black 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 1SS was clocked at 171 mph on that stretch of Minnesota Highway 61.

Hermantown Police Department Deputy Chief Shawn Padden was on loan as part of a Minnesota State Patrol "Toward Zero Deaths" DWI saturation effort Friday night when the radar in his Dodge Charger squad car started screaming

AGREED!

Spinning up the GM rant machine: GM built and build crap and ripped me off big time back in the 80s. I will never forgive and I will never forget and take every opportunity to rant about them.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity!

I did 100mph in my Honda 1500GL on the way back from Chapel Hill with 4 people in the car. I still had pedal to spare.

That isn’t anywhere near a stock unit. I don’t know who the aftermarket tuners for GM are, but that one’s been ‘tinkered with’. Heh.

My son has managed to coax 100 out of my Infiniti G35 6 speed a few times. The best I have done is 90 and it was a piece of cake. 260 hp and 260 lbs of torque

Agreed. 200mph is 300ft/sec, and at that speed, there’s no control over anything that happens. Anyone in the vicinity gets taken out, and God help the survivors, if any.

That’s faster than the final approach speed of a Boeing 737 (144 knots or 165.7 MPH)

Once around 1978 I was riding with my dad in his Plymouth Fury cruiser. It had a 440 magnum. He went after a guy speeding the other way. I watched the certified speedometer peg at 140 mph. It was a blast.

A Bunch of Pikers!

In December 2013 the Texas Toll Road Authority let Hennessey Performance open up one of their 700HP C7 Corvettes on the new Toll Road before it opened.

200.6 mph and 203.9 mph.

Everything’s faster in Texas!

First of all GM screwed the poor with the incomparable POS Vega that would die and rust out by 30,000 miles. Then GM management, feeling contrite for what they had done to the poor, created an AA plan to compensate by screwing the rich. Thus came the glorious GM diesels, all of which failed with minimal mileage, and the infamous V 8,6,4 engines.
