Cruz belittles Trump's response to delegate defeats
Washington Examiner ^ | 4/11/16 | Ryan Lovelace

Posted on 04/11/2016 2:42:38 PM PDT by markomalley

Ted Cruz mocked Donald Trump for "a lot of whining" and "cursing" over losing delegates to the Texas senator on the campaign trail.

Cruz told a California crowd he won "11 elections" in the past three weeks and said Trump has been beside himself ever since. The senator picked up scores of delegates in Colorado this weekend, which prompted Trump to deliver an indignant response on Twitter questioning the nominating process of the Centennial State.

"Now in response, Donald has been yelling and screaming, a lot of whining, I'm sure some cursing, and some late-night fever-tweeting. All the characteristics, I would note, we would want of a commander in chief," Cruz said on the trail in California. "And the latest thing he's seized upon is when people vote against him, they're stealing the election. It's a really odd notion. 'Well what is this democracy of which you speak? Wait, wait you mean voters get to vote? No, no, no. No, no, no.'"

Cruz went on to tout the importance of the upcoming Golden State nominating contest, and said it would determine the outcome of the entire GOP primary.

"I'm going to say a sentence that has not been said in 50 years. California is going to decide the Republican nomination for the presidency," Cruz said.

The California primary's 172 delegates will be up for grabs on June 7. Cruz is campaigning in the Golden State this week, and is making stops in Irvine and San Diego on Monday.

Can’t the stupid bastard see that the COP plans to dump him when they get to Cleveland? The GOP doesn’t want either Cruz OR Trump and like what was done to Trump, they will also do to Cruz.

"Not true. They changed the rules in August. I’m pretty sure all the candidates had declared by then."

You are correct. I was wrong.

It's even possible that the rules were changed to stop Trump, though it's unlikely they intended to help Cruz.

That still doesn't negate the fact that the rules were set LONG before the event happened, and in plenty of time for Trump to take advantage of them better than Cruz did.

If he becomes President, Trump will have bigger, smarter, tougher enemies than the leaders of the Colorado GOP. Putin comes to mind. Trump needs to prove he is smart and can build an effective organization of good people around him, that can accomplish something in a field other than real estate. So far, his campaign seems to indicate the opposite.

Trump is playing. He knew what the rules were last year. Trump is using the bomb the Colorado GOP gave him to blow the corruption there sky high. I think Trump planned it that way. He knew the GOP elitist rules in Colorado. A good warrior chooses the battle - and when it’s not winnable you do an end run. That is what Trump is doing and it’s working perfectly. Look what’s happening on twitter, on facebook, here, on Drudge, and in the pressers.

Ted will wish he had never seen Colorado before this is over.

People make a huge mistake when they underestimate Trump.

"How many votes did Cruz, Kasich and Trump each get in Colorado?? No one seems to know."

No one knows because Colorado doesn't make the caucus/state convention votes public. This is not unique to Colorado... a handful of other states don't either, mostly in the Democratic Party though.

It’s a joke.

Colorado was a bed built for Jeb, Cruz just happened to fall into it - wildly fornicating and fluffling every establishment elitist he can get close to. The exact same thing happened on Wisconsin.

Yes. The “only principled candidate in the race” has left the race never to return, “A Time For Truth” has defaulted to “A Time For Status Quo Gutter Politics”.

I’d like a refund on my copy of the book. Ted will wish he had never seen Colorado before this is over.

Have you seen the video of the Cruz family taken while making the ad. Very strange interactions among family members...when they did. Weird!

How is corruption for a state political party is make up its own rules for choosing delegates? Trump is calling foul because he is trying to keep his rump behind him.

Because we-the-people were left out.

Amazing all the smart people here that don’t get it. The big picture problem is not rocket science to anyone who is not stuck staring at one tree so long they get so cross-eyed they think the fuzzy thing they see is the whole forest.

What happened In Colorado is indefensible on any coherent, rational, ethical, or moral ground. Everyone know this. THAT is the big picture, that is the forest - and exactly why Trump is so much more popular than any other candidate. THAT is why there is a movement like we have never before seen in American politics. Trump is blowing up the status-quo Americans have HATED for so long. And Colorado gave him more ammunition in that fight for freedom from establishment elitists cramming what they want down our throats.

Trump knew the rules. He is using the CO election results to his benefit and Cruz is playing right into his hand.

Disclaimer: I will vote for anyone with an R next to thier name in November. As much as I can’t stand Ryan or Romney, they are better (by an inch) than the alternative.

"That is what Trump is doing and it’s working perfectly."

I'd have to say it most definitely is NOT working perfectly, since Trump is about to be the first GOP frontrunner in forty years to go into the convention WITHOUT the nomination wrapped up. Frankly, I don't think he will get it.

Either way, it hardly matters. Trump has already guaranteed the Dems will win the general election by making the nominating contest so personal and dividing the Republican voters. He apparently does not understand that when you demean other candidates, their supporters (whose votes he will need in the general) feel personally insulted by Trump.

And those who oppose Trump have responded back in kind, so no matter what happens millions of people who voted in the GOP primaries are likely to stay home in the general election, handing the Presidency and Supreme Court, and probably Congress as well to the Democrats.

Thank you, Trump, for the key role you played in helping to make America suck again.

It’s working, don’t kid yourself. Be objective and observe. The firestorm over Colorado is just starting. Trump reaches 7 million on twitter and another 7 on facebook. With retweets and shares he can reach 10 million in minutes. And that is exactly what he’s been doing. For the traditionalists Trumps doing pressers. Drudge has had two front page articles on the corruption.

You cannot pull a Colorado and get by with it in the information age. You are livin’ in the past if you think you can.

Yeah, we are in agreement. I would too, if my vote mattered. But I live in California, so I can vote my conscience, and am unlikely to vote for any Republican other than Cruz in the general.

Actually, I doubt any votes in November will matter much. The division Trump has already created in the Republican electorate pretty much guarantees that the Democrat nominee will win in November. By demeaning other GOP candidates, Trump demeans their supporters, many of whom will stay home in November. Then the anti-Trump forces begin doing the same thing, demeaning Trump supporters. This country is done, and Trump deserves a big part of the blame, by putting his ego ahead of the good of the country.

Trump has been mocking Cruz from the start. If Cruz criticizes Trump or a rule We always see Trump mocking him This site has several super imposed pictures of Cruz crying. Trump manufactures straw men mocking and quoting Cruz on things Cruz never said. I call that LYING

Large number?? Someone told me it was 8000 total. What is the total number of Republicans in Colorado??

The GOP pointed a gun at their own head and handed Trump the ammunition. He’s loading it and pulling the trigger. They were stupid to think he wouldn’t.

"Trump reaches 7 million on twitter and another 7 on facebook."

Most of whom already support him. Nearly all of whom have already decided whether to support him or not.

At best, he moves some people who hate him from Cruz over to Kasich. That's not likely to change the delegate count much.

Mark my words, Trump won't have enough delegates by the convention. Even with very favorable assumptions in favor of Trump, every delegate model I've seen shows him coming up short.

If Trump comes up short, and is as brilliant as you think he is, maybe he will be able to negotiate well enough to pick up the majority. I wouldn't bet on it.

"You cannot pull a Colorado and get by with it in the information age."

Now, if YOU were objective, you'd realize that Cruz "pulled" nothing. Party leaders in Colorado made the rule change way back in August when they probably assumed the race would be over by the time they held their state convention, just as it has been for the last 40 years.

And most Cruz voters (not counting the ones who just hate Trump) dislike the establishment as much as Trump voters, so I don't see how they're all going to be upset when Cruz benefits from the rules, just as Trump has benefited from rules in other states to gain a disproportionate share of delegates.

There have been at least a dozen Cruz supporters who today told me they were switching to Trump. That is the “Colorado effect”. It isn’t going to be pretty.
