Absolutely Painful: De Blasio Jokes About 'Colored People Time' With Hillary At Charity Event
Townhall.com ^ | April 11, 2016 | Matt Vespa

It’s only racist if Republicans do it; that’s seems to be the ethos of the political left and that of the Democratic Party. This was showcased yet again, albeit painfully, during the awkward moment when New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio joked about how his late endorsement of Hillary Clinton was on “CP” time during the Inner Circle’s annual musical at the New York Hilton Hotel over the weekend.

According to their description on Facebook, The Inner Circle was founded in the early 1920s, which allowed members of the media to poke fun at politics and “hold up a mirror to New York's political elite.” Past mayoral appearances include Michael Bloomberg dressing as a hippie, while Rudy Giuliani showed up in drag. It’s a charity event that saw a guest appearance from Hillary Clinton that led to this rather awkward exchange.

Leslie Odum, Jr. of the Broadway musical “Hamilton” was on stage performing the Inner Circle’s rendition of “Shamilton,” when De Blasio came front and center and, uh, started rapping about his love for New York:

Mayor Bill de Blasio Performing in the 2016 Inner Circle.

"I love this city and that's a fact," the mayor rapped. "But it's like shark week when you reporters attack. I know you're doing your job, so let me do mine. 'Cause I'm BDB, and this is my rhyme."

I’ll let you watch the rest of this painful act, but around 7:55 – Hillary appears on stage with Odum and De Blasio. At 8:55 comes the awkward colored people’s time remark.

“I just have to say thanks for the endorsement, Bill,” said Clinton. “Took you long enough,” she continued.

“Sorry Hillary, I was running on CP time,” replied De Blasio, which did not elicit much laughter from the crowd.

“That’s not—I don’t like jokes like that, Bill,” said Odum. Clinton said he was talking about “cautious politician time.” The thing is we all know he wasn’t–and it was a stupid joke, especially for someone who is part of the left wing, political correctness charge that’s ruining college and comedy. Yes, Mr. Mayor we all know you have a black wife; a) that doesn’t make you a member of the African American community b) that doesn’t mean you can culturally appropriate the jokes about her culture and race as if they’re your own. Sorry, I’m just going by the progressive playbook on these rules and regulations. Could you imagine the uproar if a Republican had made a similar comment, albeit in jest, at a charity event? There would wall-to-wall media coverage. So, it appears that making politically incorrect, or other racially charged, remarks are just fine, as long as you’re a Democrat, or if you’re “down with the Sandinistas,” in which we have no doubts, Mr. De Blasio.

I've personally never really used the term in conversation. Anyone who has been in the military can tell you there are plenty of black (we referred to them as "dark green" or "light green") troops that can and do show up on time regularly without a problem.

But, I have seen it be an issue in civilian employment on occasion. Once got another black employee to testify that the plaintiff has said she was entitled to her CPT, and wasn't going to hear otherwise.

She lost.

I’ve never even heard of that particular form of political incorrectness.

How did she get Kim Jong un’s fashion designer out of North Korea?

Kim Jong has gained a lot of weight eating the People's food leaving them all to starve, so his wardrobe castoffs where gifted to Hitlary.

I knew a Puerto Rican lady 30 years ago and she used the CP time slur all the time. I’d forgotten about it. Way to keep the stereotype alive Deblasio! Racist!

Ha! Thanks. I'm obviously a big fan of the guy -- a quintessentially American B actor with a great sense of humor, and without the ego of most "stars".

But I didn't want anyone to think I was actually him, so rather than using just his name, and because I have a fairly prominent jawline myself, I chose this one. Wouldn't want to give him a reason to hunt me down with that chainsaw arm and shotgun....

I think de Blasio should right now keep a low profile given he may be heavily tied into a major corruption scandal now brewing at the New York Police Department (NYPD). If I were Hillary Clinton, I'd start to keep my distance from him, too.

Yes, it’s a very extensive scandal, well beyond NYPD and involves graft on a gigantic scale. A lot of the money that he obtained through this corruption went to three “non-profits” founded by him (which never did any work, from what can be determined) but which were actually a means for collecting funds for his - brace yourself - run for President. Yes, US president.

I would’ve guessed that “attorney time” was a euphemism for double billing every hour.

DeBlasio can’t be racist.

He gets inoculated against it every night from his wife.

From behind.

Wow, completely in the tradition of one William Magear "Boss" Tweed and what he did when running New York City's infamous Tammany Hall between 1853 and 1871. One wonders did the Clinton Foundation model itself based on the way Tammany Hall worked during Tweed's time.

In fact, mark my words--the downfall of Hillary Clinton will be revelations about the use of the Clinton Foundation as a massive graft scheme. The book Clinton Cash may only be scratching the surface of the size of that scheme.

Both DeBlasio and Hillary know that “CP time” means Communist Party time.

It’s a Marxist thing, folks.

That CPT may have started with the old CBS variety show, ‘’The Ed Sullivan Show’’.
