Trump claims $102 million charitable donations over last 5 years, but gave no personal cash
American Thinker ^ | 04/11/2016 | Thomas Lifson

In a lengthy analysis of data provided by the Trump campaign, Washington Post writers David A. Fahrenthold and  Rosalind S. Heiderman find that claimed charitable contributions by Donald Trump included no actual cash from his personal funds.

Since the first day of his presidential campaign, Donald Trump has said that he gave more than $102 million to charity in the past five years.

To back up that claim, Trump’s campaign compiled a list of his contributions — 4,844 of them, filling 93 pages.

But, in that massive list, one thing was missing.

Not a single one of those donations was actually a personal gift of Trump’s own money.

Instead, according to a Washington Post analysis, many of the gifts that Trump cited to prove his generosity were free rounds of golf, given away by his courses for charity auctions and raffles.

Another substantial source of charitable deductions was “land-conservation agreements to forgo development rights on property Trump owns.”

Both of these categories of charity are entirely legitimate. But they do not involve taking money out of a bank and giving to others. Instead, they forego opportunities to make money in the future, and generate tax deductions today.

Additionally, the $102 million figure includes donations by the Donald J. Trump Foundation, but as the reporters show, funding for that foundation has, in recent years, come from others.

” This is a matter-of-fact report”

R O T F L M F A O

It is counting on the ignorance & stupidity of the average American reader regarding how charities and FOUNDATIONS donate money. Nice try though, S & F.

Dishonest as hell, but nice try : )

Another article from an idiot cruz supporter. Shouldn’t expect too much. The next article will be about Trump leaving the toilet seat up last week and what a horrible person he is.

“Depends, again, on HOW you do it... the system is rigged to favor the 401(c)(3) modern kind of charity. If you feed the homeless (assuming they haven’t banned that in your locale) you get ZERO tax write off.”

Then, I gave nothing to charity. The 401C did. Good for them.

Twist it any way you want, it’s not going to end up being “me giving to charity” until it comes from me. If I establish Homeless Feeders, a 401C, I’ll be very nice, but if it ain’t coming from my pocket, it ain’t coming from me. I’m tired of this you know what is right and what isn’t. I’m tired of all this mumbo jumbo. Good luck with the continued quest to start running a straight dope real no-shit campaigner for President. I’ll vote for the SOB if he ends up on the ticket with an R behind his name, but I won’t try to convince myself he’s a straight talker. I’d rather just get what I know I’m getting than to convince me it’s not the same shit in a different wrapper.

Didn’t you hear. Cruz is the church. His followers tithe and worship him.

It does no such thing Establishment nominator. Simple fact is the Very rich have very little “income” as defined by the tax code. Which is why they often have a lower tax bracket then some of their help. The foundations, trusts etc are the vehicles for handling the vast sums they control. Bottom line it came out of his net worth not income.

Trump is being hypocritical when he attacks folks that are using the rules to their advantage.

Trump has used the tax rules to his advantage for years as this article proves.

He’s also paid big $ to politicians so they would help change the rules for his advantage.

Stop whining Mr. Trump. Buck up and fight for every delegate like the Cruz campaign is doing. Like you do Mr. Trump in business.

The primary has always been about 2 things, votes and delegates. Cruz is playing for both.

Trump is showing his ignorance and/or arrogance by ignoring the equally important delegate by delegate race. till now.

What’s Trumps response? Typical Trump - lather up the personal attacks.

And who do you think makes the decision in the Trump organization and to whom the donation goes to. Stupid, your intelligence is showing.

Who owns the Doral and how much money is lost if “x” number of rounds are given away?

That is a net loss in revenue and margins which the owners will feel and they will it on their ledger.

If Doral gives away $10,000 in rounds, that’s one less pair of shoes for Milania...

If you didn’t have “Cruz” tattooed on your forehead, it’d be a different matter.

I really find this to be amusing. This is a matter-of-fact report, nothing more, yet, Trumpettes are acting as if this is an attack on him ( and by extension on his supporters ). Tsk Tsk.

Since when is a Washington Post story about any republican a matter of fact report, bless your little heart.

As a businessman, my charitable donations are nearly always through my company. I gave a little over $10,000 last year through deeply discounted or donated products. If those same charities had to rely on my “cash” donations, they would have been sh*t out of luck.
