AFAIK the States have the right to use whatever method they want to pick delegates for their party conventions. If you don’t like it, get involved and change it. At bare minimum stop feeding the beast. All my political donations this year have been to individual candidates, not to the party apparatus.
A big question people should be asking is, “how did this sneak up on the Trump campaign?” I would assume that as an international businessman he has to make himself familiar with the local laws where he operates.
