"This Is Devastating News For Republicans": Poll Finds Denying Trump Nomination Would Crush GOP
ZeroHedge.com ^ | 04/09/2016 | Tyler Durden

In the latest shock for the GOP, which in recent weeks some have speculated is willing to scuttle the entire republican presidential campaign if it means not having Trump as the candidate, according to a just released Reuters poll, one third of Republican voters who support Donald Trump could turn their backs on their party in November's presidential election if he is denied the nomination in a contested convention.

Or, as The Hill puts it, "blocking Donald Trump from the Republican presidential nomination with a contested convention would spell disaster for the GOP" because instead Trump supporters would vote Democrat, vote third-party or sit out the election.

Just 66% of Trump supporters, which as of this moment are the most numerous of any presidential candidate, said they would support the GOP's nominee anyway.

Should it get to a contested convention, the GOP could be hurt even more in November because 58% of Trump supporters said they would stay with the party, while 16% would leave and 26% responded they didn't know, yet.

The results are bad news for Trump's rivals as well as party elites opposed to the real estate billionaire, suggesting that an alternative Republican nominee for the Nov. 8 presidential race would have a tougher road against the Democrats.

You openly despise the voters. That is YOUR problem, not theirs.

At the risk of being accused of plagiarism.......

Cruz has lost it fair and square and should step aside for the sake of the country. If his continued efforts at thievery split and destroy the party, we’ll be saddled by Hillary or burned by Bernie.

A plurality shouldn’t decide anything for the majority. But you think it should. And that’s your problem.

CRUZ / GOPe supporters... YOU ARE ON A POLITICAL KAMIKAZE MISSION!

YOU WILL NOT ‘WIN’ ANYTHING EXCEPT A LOSING PLACE IN HISTORY!

Yep. And down ticket would be a massacre. Open senate seats in FL and IN. Johnson in WI and Toomey in PA. All gone for the GOP without Trumpers. Dems say thank you Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz and his hysterical never Trump surrogates are the greatest gift to the Dem party ever. They could not have invented a better GOP voter suppression campaign. There just is no positive outcome for Ted Cruz. Cruz lost at the ballot box and Cruzers need to stop this tantrum now.

You’ve been in Northern Virginia too long Scotty. Cruz is a stiff who won’t carry Romney’s states, Kasich is a democrat who won’t get the nomination or any support if he did. Trump can grow the party’s map simply by appealing to Americans who never asked for a merger with Mexico or to be endangered by masses of muslims.

I am a Conservative not a Republican. I won’t vote for Trump under any circumstances because he is not a conservative. I’ll vote for Conservatives down ticket if Trump gets the nomination. If Cruz get the nomination I’ll hold my nose and vote for him.

I get where Trump supporters are coming from by refusing to vote for anyone but Trump and I’m no position to criticize that position. What leaves me a bit baffled is the additional vow to vote for Dim’s down ticket..

The fall out will be brutal for house, senate, state, and local level elections if the establishment continues the scorched earth policy.

What the leadership of the Republican Party doesn't understand is that the “rank & file” hate the leadership.

Look at the how frustrated the Tea Party was. Look at the political fight that removed Boehner from House Speaker. Look at how people hated the idea of Bob Dole, John McCain, and even Mitt Romney at Presidential candidates.

People, who identify as Republicans, and who are not aligned with the leadership of the Part are in the majority and want change...........no THEY DEMAND CHANGE.

This is not surprising.

The Cruz supporters, the ‘true believers’, are by and large strictly ‘ideological’....AND... have always allowed themselves to be ‘used and abused’ (like most of us) these past 30 years by Republican ‘conservative-spouting’ politicians..... TRUMP supporters ARE DONE being ‘USED and ABUSED’, but the STUPID PARTY, and are ready to DUMP THE PARTY come November if TRUMP is not the nominee.

That’s correct. Cruzers are the porch conservatives on the GOP plantation. Happy to be abused by bought and paid for career politicans. Happy to buy the nonsense about the GOP being pro-life, pro-family, etc. The beltway GOP is rotten to the core and care not one bit about social conservatism.

Cruz has stupidly fired up Trumpers. I was thinking Cruz would hit 15% in NY but now I suspect 10% is on the table.

I doubt people would vote for Hillary if Trump is blocked. They will just stay home.

It’s called voter suppression and is how the kenyan won in 2012 with the 47% nonsense. Ted Cruz is the gift that keeps on giving for Hillary and her goosestepping Dems.

No Trump, no vote.

There’s always the Romney Rule from Cruz supporter Mitt Romney: write in the candidate of your choice.

Cruz lost and now wants Trump to lose as well (the general election).

Exactly. Cruz wants Trump to lose so he can run in 2020. I suspect his 2018 Senate bid is going to be a rough election though. He may not make it to 2020. LOL.
