Canadian citizen for 44 of his 45 1/2 years on earth.

And he was and is a U.S. citizen for 45 1/2 years. After Wisconsin's loss Trump showed how mature he was in his loss, and made all sorts of unfounded accusations about Cruz(nothing new for Trump) being a "Trojan Horse, being used by the party bosses". I guess that makes all of the people that voted for Cruz over Trump idiots, or puppets also? Yeah Trump really is different from all of those RINO's that make deals with the democrats to our detriment, that's why he said this January 26, 2016 Trump: "I'll work with Democrats" , all hail Trump the deal maker. Maybe Trump will be the best thing since sliced bread, I'm hoping, but then again I fear he is just the Governator on steroids, and I don't want another Arnold.

Like I have said before, if Trump is the nominee I will vote for him, if Cruz is the nominee I will vote for him. I have reservations about both but could live with either, I don't feel the need for the rabid, blind adoration that some on FR have for their chosen candidate, and I don't limit that statement to only one candidate.

Cruz was born a NBC Canadian and remained one until 18 months ago, you deal with that. New York values is a derogatory statement in the context that Cruz used it and not entirely fair. I can only assume he thought it would help him in the South, which it apparently did not. I keep hearing that Ted Bush is a brilliant lawyer. I have not seen much evidence of that in this campaign so far. I would think a brilliant lawyer could articulate his thoughts well enough to disparage Trump without insulting an entire, delegate rich state. Calgary Ted is now being bitten on his “Made in Canada” butt for his ill advised remark.

The point is I was chided by another person for referring to Calgary Ted as a Canadian. Cruz was born in Canada and remained a NBC Canadian for 44 1/2 years until he renounced his Canadian citizenship in October 2014. I do not think that calling him Canadian is inaccurate or much of a stretch.

Cruz was born in Canada as the son of an American citizen. As per the law at the time of his birth that makes him a natural born American citizen as well.

Deal with it or get a court to rule otherwise.

If you cant see evidence that Cruz is a brilliant lawyer then you are willfully ignorant. You don’t do what he has done otherwise.

My point is that the unnecessary, and demeaning comments about both the front runners(kasick is fair game, as are hitlary and sandman 8^ ), detract from real, intelligent and informative discourse that might actually bring someone to either candidate.

Right now it's full on Hatfield and McCoys using nukes, with some Freepers that would appear to have nothing else but scour the internet for the most foul article or baseless accusation they can find about the opposing candidate. It's so bad that it bleeds over into totally unrelated posts.

Cruz was born in Canada. I do not see how calling him Canadian is inaccurate. He came from Canada and remained a NBC Canadian for over 90% of his life, deal with it. I agree that having a US citizen mother makes him a US citizen but I do not agree about the NBC thing. His father was a Cuban citizen at the time he was born. There are smart legal people on both sides of that issue. I personally do not think Cruz is NBC American. What brilliant legal stuff has he done?

“He came from Canada and remained a NBC Canadian for over 90% of his life, deal with it.”

Sure, I never said he wasn’t.

Now show me in our Constitution where that makes a person ineligible to be President.

There are only two kinds of citizenship. Natural born and naturalized. Thats it.

legal people will argue anything if there’s attention or money involved.

Ted Cruz legal experience

- law clerk to William Rehnquist
- Associate Deputy Attorney General at the DOJ under GW Bush
- Solicitor General of Texas
- adjunct professor at Univ of Texas school of Law.
- while in private practice he supported cases involving the NRA
- Helped prepare testimony for Clintons impeachment
- Helped assemble the team and pleadings for the Bush v Gore case in front of the Supreme Court for the 2000 election.

he’s done extensive work for cases in front of the Supreme Court.

He drafted the brief for the Heller case.

Many other things.

I called him Canadian. That is accurate, he came from Canada. I was aware of the Gore thing and that he presented an Amicus brief to SCOTUS on behalf of a number of states for Heller. He is a competent lawyer. I would not have voted for him in 2012 if I had known that he was a Canadian citizen at the time or that he would pull an Obama and start running for president less than a year after he got to the Senate. I hope to vote against him in 2018.

You didn’t answer the question.

Where does it say in our Constitution that if another country grants a person citizenship it makes them ineligible to be President?

I was taught that NBC meant two citizen parents and born in the country, so it was not possible to be a citizen of another country. Cruz was a NBC Canadian, US and possibly Cuban citizen when he was born. I guess the thinking is that if the Rats got their Obama some people think Republicans should get their own. I really do not think another half term junior Senator, ineligible President is the way to go.

“I was taught that NBC meant two citizen parents and born in the country, so it was not possible to be a citizen of another country.”

Some people think it should be that but the legal definition is only one parent. There are some additional age and time lived in the US requirements.

Even with that, two born and bred Americans go to Niagra Falls and she has a baby on the Canadian side. Is that little one a NBC? According to some the answer is no. According to the law, yes they are.

So what if Russia had decided to grant Reagan citizenship during his time in office? Should that have any impact on his American citizenship?

I am not so sure if another Junior center is the way to go either. A whole lot better then a spoiled rich kid though.

Turned out to be a bad gamble. He’s going to have that shoved in his face for the next two weeks.

I don't disagree with you about that rather I would argue that what he said was true, New York values are not America's values. And tables always turn. I must say I am looking forward to the pubbie convention. It's going to be a good time. The first contested pubbie convention since 1976 as I recall. Really looking forward to it.

I respectfully disagree with you. I have read some articles by very qualified legal people who say that Cruz is not eligible. I agree with them. I do not care if any of the made up examples you give qualify. I think Cruz does not. Cruz really was born in Canada to a Cuban father who fought for the commies and Cruz really remained a natural born Canadian citizen (that is the wording used by the Canadian Citizenship Act of 1946) until he was 44 years old and after he was a US Senator. It is not like some country just decided to make him a citizen for the hell of it. I am annoyed that Cruz lied to people like me in 2012 by not revealing he was a Canadian citizen at the time. I would not have voted for him if I had known that little factoid he conveniently neglected to mention. I look forward to voting against Calgary Cruz in 2018.

Funny how none of those legal experts are willing to bring a case to actual court.

Until they do and a judge rules, Cruz is a NBC.

There are lawyers prepared if he becomes the nominee. I read an article that quoted the nut bag Alan Grayson claiming that he is ready to file if Cruz becomes the nominee. I assume there are others. I guess if you are a ‘Rat there is no point in wasting the money or effort just yet.
