EMP Attack Could Kill 90% of US Population
Levin TV ^ | 4/4/16 | Mark Levin

Posted on 04/04/2016 5:37:17 AM PDT by Gen.Blather

Episode 15 is a video interview by Mark Levin of NHS Task Force Executive Director Dr. Peter Pry about the growing EMP threat. Dr. Pry makes a powerful argument about how vulnerable the US and specifically the American people are to an EMP attack on our electrical infrastructure by North Korea or Iran. It would only take one bomb exploded thirty miles over the continental United States to potentially kill ninety million Americans. The bomb itself would not kill anybody.

At any given moment half a million people are flying over the United States. With their electronics destroyed, most of those planes would crash. Those planes that did survive would find themselves without satellite and ground guidance, or landing lights if the attack happened at night. So, within half an hour half a million people would die. Longer term, imagine the aftermath of Katrina but lasting a year or more. People dependent on technology, those in hospitals or needing dialysis would die at their own rates.

Unable to pump gas, travel in a car, make a cell phone call or obtain food, life would crash from the twenty-first century back to the nineteenth. But, people in the nineteenth century had all the infrastructure they needed to survive. We wouldn't. This is a particularly powerful scenario in that we don't know if the North Korean satellite orbiting above the US is a bomb simply waiting for an insane ruler to press the button.

So far our government has done nothing. Dr. Pry says that although Obama is informed of the danger he has done nothing because it would draw attention to the massive failures of his administration to protect Americans.

FYI, Gen.Blather

“I promise you they are. They are paying me to do it.”

No, they are not. Stop lying. Again, this is the typical juvenile responses on the subject. The EMP crowd is nothing but booger eating morons, typical underachiever crowd that wants to sound scientific and knowledgeable on a subject they think no one else knows about.

Good book with interesting research notes at the end.
A localized high altitude EMP would devastate a city. However, food, water and parts could be brought in for repairs and transportation could come from outside the affected area. I think the result would be similar to a bad hurricane - think Katrina.

The real civilization ending scenario is a coordinated high altitude attack with several weapons designed to cover the continental US. Without food, water, sewer and transportation major cities would be uninhabitable in a few days. Disease would run rampant. Anarchy would be the rule of the day.

In 1900 there were 76 million Americans, some 80% living on farms. That could easily be the population of the US a year after a coordinated HEMP attack.

Dead on. Why waste the resources and risks associated with nuclear programs when you can be invited to send over countless soldiers able to devastate the US using simple and effective means.

Lol...Ok, I’ll stop trying to convince you. I’m sorry my technical information when over your head to the point you think I’m lying to you.

OK, let’s play your game.

How many men do you need to take down a power grid and to keep it down for more than 3 days? Keeping in mind that once the first bomb goes off, you are going to have security popping up. Once the 3rd or 4th bomb goes off, you are going to have the National Guard out. Once the 10th bomb goes off, people are going to start guarding their own local targets.

No, its hard enough to put a power grid down and keep it down when you are conducting a concerted air campaign. I don’t think even two hundred infiltrators could do it.

Nothing in that book could convince me that large numbers of Americans would die of dehydration three days after the power grid failed. Three days? Utter nonsense.

Dear Rf,

From someone who has known aboht this stuff for over 40 yrs.,

your summation is based by your term ‘absofption of power’.

An EMP is not an emission of a ‘power’ of energy.

It is an emission of alternate polarity. (For those so inclined, antimatter vs matter.)

It is not an emission of power, but immediately reverses electron flow, like connecting your car battery backward.

NOTHING electrical/electro-mechanical will work, period.
Magnets will be made null.

The only remefies are to build ‘farraday cages’ to protect what you wish to protect.

Please read the linked WSH Metcalf story. Then, you would realize that it was not taken out by bombs, but by common rifle fire.

After you have read the Metcalf story, you will be in a position to have an intelligent conversation.

Read this WSJ story on the Metcalf attack, then we can have an intelligent conversation.

“Back up in days” indicates you are pretty clueless about this subject.

Thanks TLS.

This is gibberish. An EMP is pretty well understood as far as the emissions are concerned. They were measured, theoretically calculated, modeled. It has been well-documented. Google “C. L. Longmire” and dive into the stuff he did and wrote about. He was there and knew the subject better than anyone and fortunately wrote about it in great technical detail.

What is not understood is how the fields we know will be present during an EMP will be absorbed by complex systems and cause them to fail or degrade. (power grids, communication networks, cars, pumps, pipelines, etc.)

“Magnets will be made null.”

Nonsense. whomever told you this was pulling your leg.

Bombs, rifle fire, drill bits, carbon fibers... it doesn’t matter.

Yes, I’m well aware that transformers need cooling oil and that shooting them lets the oil out. It also announces your presence, and attracts attention. Not a big deal if you want to succeed one time or for a very short period of time, but long term it just doesn’t work. Every action has a reaction.

From C.L. Longmire (1986) (see: http://ece-research.unm.edu/summa/notes/TheoreticalPDFs/TN368.pdf
)

“Over the 22 years since the first publication (Ref. 1) of the theory of High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP), there have been several doubters of the correctness of that theory. On one occasion it was briefly claimed that the HEMP is a much larger pulse than our theory indicates, and is a longitudinal wave rather than transverse. This claim was easily shown to rest on an incorrect application of a standard formula for the fields of a charge moving at relativistic speed. More conmonly, it has been claimed that the HEMP is a much smaller pulse than our theory indicates and it has been implied, though not directly stated in writing, that the HEMP has been exaggerated by those who work on it in order to perpetuate their own employment. It could be noted that, in some quarters, the disparagement of HEMP has itself become an occupation. While we have found that no amount of technical reasoning suffices to quiet such criticism, we have learned to live with it, and even to regard it as possibly having some beneficial effects, for example in bringing the question of the HEMP threat to electrical and electronic systems to the attention of a wider circle of individuals who have responsibility for those systems.”

Read the paper. Learn something. Ask me questions if you don’t understand something. I’ll answer them as best I can, even though you’re kind of a dick.

A commando attack on the grid would involve at least 20 teams attacking 20 key substations at the same hour. Call it sixty “foreign students”, located near twenty universities located in proximity to their targets.

Just to use the Iranians for an example, they are spending billions on a crash-program to develop ICBMs and nuclear warheads.

For less than 1% of that cost, they can have an in-place commando capability. Metcalf was a commando attack, a “proof of concept operation” by professionals.

The same kind of limited thinking that you are showing left Pearl Harbor with the planes stacked wingtip to wingtip on Dec. 7th 1941.

If 340 major transformers are destroyed in one hour, (20 Metcalf attacks) taking down either the western or eastern grid, there would be no rapid fix. Have you read the WSJ piece yet?

The company that makes these giant transformers can make 5 a week. Even if they double production to ten, the grid is going to be down for weeks at least, if not months.

What would happen to the population of NYC, Philly, Baltimore etc with the power out for weeks or months? Would folks sing Kumbaya while learning to eat dirt and drink air?

Circa 1940, it was commonly known that Japs were stupid little cross-eyed yellow monkeys who could only make crappy tin toys.

Pretty much on the level of your analysis.

Well that s a junk link. Sorry I’m not a subscriber! If that’s the one I’m thinking of it was union workers who did the damage and union workers who had to come and fix it. Kind of speaks for it’self. And your the expert? By the way they bypassed that substation and rerouted power if I remember correctly.

I have a creek running by my house, game in the woods and the ability to plant a garden. Granted until a crop came in your subsistence would be limited to what you had on hand to eat and what game you can kill. But once you get a crop in and begin canning and get a smoke house and meat house into operation you can make it. And one burst taking out everything, not quite buying it?
