Electoral Map Is a Reality Check to Trump’s Bid
NY Times ^ | 04-02-2016 | JONATHAN MARTIN and NATE COHN

Donald J. Trump’s presidential candidacy has stunned the Republican Party. But if he survives a late revolt by his rivals and other leaders to become the party’s standard-bearer in the general election, the electoral map now coming into view is positively forbidding.

In recent head-to-head polls with one Democrat whom Mr. Trump may face in the fall, Hillary Clinton, he trails in every key state, including Florida and Ohio, despite her soaring unpopularity ratings with swing voters.

In Democratic-leaning states across the Rust Belt, which Mr. Trump has vowed to return to the Republican column for the first time in nearly 30 years, his deficit is even worse: Mrs. Clinton leads him by double digits in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Trump is so negatively viewed, polls suggest, that he could turn otherwise safe Republican states, usually political afterthoughts because of their strong conservative tilt, into tight contests. In Utah, his deep unpopularity with Mormon voters suggests that a state that has gone Republican every election for a half-century could wind up in play. Republicans there pointed to a much-discussed Deseret News poll last month, showing Mrs. Clinton with a narrow lead over Mr. Trump, to argue that the state would be difficult for him.

If the Reagan Democrats in MASSACHUSETTS can re-register, and give Trump a win?

EVERYBODY can!

1980 USA no longer exists. The white voters who swung to Reagan aren’t around anymore. Romney would have won in a landslide if he had the demographics of 1980.

You might as well post a graph of an election in Uruguay or Estonia.

You make a very good point.
I really doubt if RR was 60 yrs old today that he would have a prayer of getting elected as Gov of California.

If the media, the GOPe, the democrats, and the Washington elite really believed what these supposed polls say, they would not be trying so hard to get rid of Trump...

If they believed he stood no chance against Hillary, they’d be laying low or pushing to get Trump the nomination....

I have no real use for Cruz either.

Lot of “suggests” with no evidence except a left leaning poll.

I think Trump will be fine.

Louisiana, turning sharp left in 2015, could yet go to Mrs. Bill too.

Reality and all that matters.

Good thing he won’t be the nominee.

Sorry to disappoint you.

Reality and all that matters.

Trump will have 1100-1300 delegates, next closest is Cruz with 700-800. GoPe is not suicidal, Trump wins on the first ballot, if needed, GoPe to negotiates with Trump for VP. GoPe has no other choice if it wants to hold on to Senate and House seats, they know this now you do.

Cruz is out. Guaranteed.

This race was over after Trump’s beat down of Cruz in Fl and Oh, 1,000,000(margin of Trump over Cruz) pissed off R voters in those 2 states alone, if Trump is booted. Some times facts get in the way of a good story(somebody other than Trump as nominee)

I’m like you: I don’t think many on this forum understand the appeal to the “little guy” of someone like Mrs. Bill. Even if they don’t care for her, they still revere Mr. Bill.

In today’s California, a random person off the street running with a D next to his name would beat the most accomplished Republican candidate imaginable. Ronald Reagan wouldn’t stand a chance here.

Who was the last Republican to win a statewide election in California to any office? Global celebrity Arnold Schwarzenegger? Any since?

I think Mrs. Bill will grab some “red” states nobody thought, maybe Louisiana, GA, who knows what else?

Hillary got more votes in swing state Florida than “expand the map” Trump. Just saying.

Comparing Donald Trump to Ronald Reagan is blasphemy, or maybe just rank idiocy.

Comparing bought and paid for career politician TPA Ted Cruz to Ronald Reagan is blasphemy, or maybe just rank idiocy. See how easy that is?

Estonia would probably be easier to carry than NY or CA.
