This is from a 90 year young person. Life was better 50 years ago.
I’m not 90, but getting up there. 1966 was better. And no, this isn’t a generic statement. I would say that 1916 (which I don’t remember, of course) would be worse.
Music was better, anyway.
I’m 67 and life was MUCH better 50 years ago...
Kids could play all over the neighborhood and you didn’t have to worry about some pervert grabbing them...We used to hitch hike to the mountains, even though we had licenses and cars...We did it for the fun...We could carry our rifles in the truck to school and deer hunt as soon as football practice was over...
We knew ALL our neighbors and cooked out with a crowd quite often...
Yeah...Things were MUCH better...
I am 72. And things were absolutely better. Although we thought elections were important, they would never have the dangerous consequences of today. Today we are worried about our lives and the life of liberty and justice for all AMERICANS. we had immigration quotas—most came from northern Europe plus some Russians came over here if they could escape, for freedom —not to ruin our country. Conservatives didn’t like DEMs and liberals.. LBJ and JFK lay the groundwork for what we have today.
Commies found by the FBI went to prison if they were not register. Eisenhower was great—except for appointing Earl Warren for SCOTUS. When Ike retired, he said that was the worst mistake he ever made in his lifetime. I could go on but I am boring most of you.
I’m sixty-seven and I think life was better then. We were more free and people were more sensible. After a meal, in a restaurant, you could smoke a cigarette without getting arrested, and if you broke a thermometer no one called hazmat.
Absolutely it was. As I have aged and reflected on life, I am aware that our town was divided: colored town and white town. Coloreds did not have it so well - very poor, worked for nothing. However, I have noticed that AA are much better off now but their morals have deteriorated just like the whites. That part is the saddest part of change and progression
This from an 85 year old person, life was much better 50 years ago and I was working for a living at that time and saving for this time in my life.
I will second that-——from a 93 year old WW2 combat vet
I would go back to 1966 in a heartbeat!
I'm glad I grew up when I did. I'm glad I'm as old as I am. I feel sorry for children growing up in today's world.
The best thing about growing up today is...young people don't know any better.
God bless you, 90 years young is inspiring!
Just passed the middle age marker and I know without a doubt that life was far better 50 years ago. I’m filled with sorrow that I couldn’t give my kids the same careful childhood/young adulthood that I was able to live.
We’re only on this rock for a short time (I’m guessing at 90 you feel it has sped by!) and there is much to witness and account for - I wonder, do you write much to leave first hand accounts of how life has changed in your lifetime? Just curious. Thanks
