Which of his five positions on abortion is Trump right about?

Iowa Dave, I am making a new effort to try and keep the discussion cordial. Trump doesn’t have five positions on abortion, that is just silliness. Personally, I like that Trump doesn’t tell only his inner circle what is on his mind. He acts like we the people are his inner-circle. The one thing that I do not like are politicians who have canned answers carefully calculated to give them the most votes regardless of their true feelings. I also do not like politicians who attempt to mislead people nearly every time they open their mouth.

Did you read the article? Bray was quite clear that Trump’s statement that if abortion were illegal, a mother who has an abortion should face some legal consequence of breaking the law was a correct opinion. Almost all “pro-life groups” (read that as lobbyists) also claim to be supporters of the rule of law as well as opponents of abortion. Their position that women should escape punishment if they have abortions in opposition to laws (which currently do not exist) is a political position, not a moral position. I have made a similar but lengthier argument on another thread and will not duplicate it here. I will only assert that you can’t take the position that the mother in an illegal abortion should have no legal consequences and still claim to be a strong rule of law advocate.

You are the coward I talked about. You would rather throw rocks and debate an issue you have no interest in rather than get your pearly white gloves dirty. Go vote for your empty suit and pretend you are conservative like all of the rest of the establishment.

You will never have to get your hands bloody with George T Bush III.

That is the power of Trump. His followers only see the position they agree with, and they filter out the rest. It does not matter that he is pro-Roe v Wade today: he can still be fantasized as pro-life.

Let us please keep this civilized and decent.

First off, I am pro-life. I’m also pro-sanity.

What Trump is guilty of, is what many of us are guilty of — with age, comes wisdom. Most of us change our views of things as we get older, becoming more conservative.

It is one thing for a man, between marriages (and sometimes not!) to be feeling his Wheaties when he is his 30’s & 40’s during his mid-life crisis. It is quite another when you are reaching almost age 60, with adult children and facing being a grandparent. And now he is a grandparent, several times over. He has a lovely family, must feel like the luckiest man alive. Who can reasonably blame him for being pro-life now?

There is no reason to believe this guy has positions based on politics. God knows that he has stepped on his own you-know-what enough times, without backing down.

I believe him, and so should you. Looks like we have a realistic grownup running.

All the best...
