The peasants have tasted the milk and honey

The Trump disease, as the elites regard it, is infectious and is likely to start an epidemic. A young and successful Minnesota businessman is challenging even House Speaker Paul Ryan, the pet rock of the establishment. Just out of the gate, Paul F. Nehlan III — with all those Roman numerals on his name he sounds like he might be the chairman of the house committee at the country club — talks like a thinking man’s Donald Trump.

He mocks Speaker Ryan’s remarks to a pep rally for House interns the other day in the chamber of the Ways and Means Committee as an example of the washingtonspeak that the speaker and his like-minded colleagues have perfected as the capital’s lingua franca. “Mr. Ryan appealed for unity,” he told the interns, “unity in Congress, unity among the public, unity as a nation. We should test theories and ideas, he asserted, rather than impugning motives. … The system works, he explained, only if we have mutual respect for one another.

“The problem is that the Washington class, of which Paul Ryan has become a top-ranking member, hasn’t had any respect for the rest of us for a very long time. Consequently, yes, we have lost faith in our representatives and in our government.”

snip

“The things we want [our representatives] to do, Mr. Ryan and his friends in Washington can never seem to find the stomach or backbone to do. Yet they clearly have the political courage to plunge neck-deep into the things we’ve literally begged them not to do. The Ryan establishment is going bold, all right. Boldly off track. Boldly amok. Boldly wrong.”

Ryan, the third & last member of the ‘Young Guns’ posse, needs to be (politically) rendered toes up .... Nehlan might be able to do it. He’s definitely hitting the nail on the head with what he’s saying - great quote ... couldn’t agree with him more.

Really, Mr. Ryan said that when it is so obvious that politicians do not do any of that? If they actually tested theories and ideas--and rejected the ones that don't work, the way scientists reject bad ideas--the government would be in far better shape. Instead, what we get is politicians basing laws and policies on socialist "theories" that have been routinely discredited for over a century now--and the only difference between the parties is that the Democrats use lies and whatever else gets the socialist policies in place the fastest, and the Republicans want to implement the socialist policies in a more gentle, slow manner.

I have yet to see a politician of either party actually reject a theory or idea because it didn't work. They just throw more money at it. (And our debt grows.)

"It’s hard to know what he was thinking when he said women who have abortions should be punished. Surely the consequence of an unwanted pregnancy is punishment enough."

This thought process has become accepted fact but it was not long ago the mother, not the doctor, was the one committing the crime.

We now force ourselves to believe that women become pregnant through no action of their own (parthenogenesis?).

If one engages in irresponsible, reckless behavior then one should bear the consequences and responsibilities of that behavior.

A baby is neither a punishment nor an inconvenience to be discarded.

I had no problem with what Trump said on this particular occasion.

“Boldly wrong”

Indeed.

Why would a country swimming in contraception

need abortion anyway?

Contraception used to be illegal,

I think responsibility needs to enter at some point.

What do you think ted cruz will do if one of the many women he cheats with get’s pregnant? Bring the baby to Heidi to raise?

from Ryan's "speech:"

“All of us as leaders can hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity and decency,” the speaker told them. “Instead of playing to your anxieties, we can appeal to your aspirations. Instead of playing the identity politics of ‘our base’ and ‘their base,’ we unite people around ideas and principles. And instead of being timid, we go bold.”

Saying the first line with a straight face is the epitome of hypocrisy on Speaker Ryan's part. This "speech" is standard poli-rhetorical nonsense, in front of a group of young, malleable minds. Wow, what courage! Meaningless words from an empty suit. The donor-establishment class is clearly in complete control of Speaker Ryan. His "speech" to the interns was a low-level practice run at a convention speech.

Socialism works for those in power. If they can manage it, they can stay in power for a very long time, perhaps indefinitely in their view.

Socialism’s practical utility to those in power is to neutralize and pacify the plebiscite by keeping them ineffective to making changes. This is done through the management of influence and rulemaking.

Socialism is a great ideology for those in power as it naturally pits group against group while calling to unity. Unity is achieved by one group damping out voices for change while allowing those of influence to remain above the fray.

The population of the USSR was more than 250 million people. The Communist Party, ‘The Party’. was 15 million people. They were the agents of influence in a hierarchy of influence. What brought them down was an oil price collapse that caused starvation. Starvation is and has been through history a great spark of revolution.

What has been learned since the fall of communism, and the breakup of the USSR is that those outside The Party must be kept fed. They must be fed enough to stop any unraveling of influence.

When one finds oneself in power, it becomes necessary in almost every case to retain it. Socialism provides great tools to retain power. It is very difficult to eschew the tools of socialism and at the same time remain relevant and poised for influence.

For those in power, socialism is the menu. Anything not on the menu is considered unauthorized or unhealthy. To sit at a table in a socialist restaurant and order something that is not on the menu is an act causing concern and is viewed as disruptive.

In the United States, there is a party of power. This party may take on different brand names but it is all one power. They make the rules, they control the influence, they place delegates and superdelegates in conventions as tools of their influence.

Donald Trump is not on the menu of power. Therefore, he is a cause of concern, a potential disruption. Just today there is a headline that Obama and Republicans are calling for him to ‘soften’. He is like raw meat and those that would eat this meat are savages and neanderthals. The Party wants him processed, marinated and cooked so that he is acceptable to their menu.

How dare anyone think they can change the menu! Perhaps a little change can be made but those who operate the restaurant know better what should be on the menu. Do not try to change the menu too much, else one establishment brand will be shutdown in favor of another that caters to other Party members.

You’ve been warned!

I see socialism as just another form of feudalism. The main difference being that in the days of feudalism, the feudal lords made no bones about how they viewed their subjects--they were chattel who worked the fields and otherwise did the lord's work, who were not considered to be individual people with rights. The socialist lords pretend to care about people--since pretending to care defuses revolutionary tendencies of the people who are kept oppressed.

Trump threatens the power of the feudal lords. He is the voice of the people.

Pruden, you're not spending enough time in flyover country. Think of this:

Minnesota - Gophers
Wisconsin - Badgers

It is Saturday and I have nothing to do, so here is a thought.

“What should we do with unmarried women of limited financial means who deliberately have babies.”

I see that FR is becoming the paid subsidiary of the National Enquirer. The last time that there were so many Marooons on FR was the 2008 McCain primary / election

Well, I wouldn't call it irresponsible, reckless behavior. That said, we expect men to act responsibly in regards to sex and they are held accountable for the result.

Is it too much to expect the same from women?
