Each convention writes its own rules.

Regardless, if you try to follow my argument, you see that enacting a “Trump rule” whereby the “guy with the most votes” (plurality) automatically wins is a recipe for more shenanigans and division in the future.

You will see multiple candidates staying in the race and the plurality of the winner getting smaller and smaller.

Meanwhile, minority fringe candidates with no support from the party will win the nomination, then fail miserably in the general

Do you really want to automatically nominate the guy with 22% support who is all for stopping global warming and increasing immigration?

Maybe stop focusing on this one guy (Trump) winning and try thinking in abstract, objective terms. What is a party for? Why would it select a nominee who holds positions opposite to a majority of its members?

Ok, I understand what you’re saying and it does make sense. So a none political person has little or on chance of being President because he is coming into this ground game strategy way late in the game?

Why wouldn’t the votes of a majority of the members show what their real positions are?

Maybe it’s not Ronald Reagans party anymore . Nor that of the Bushes, the Romney’s , Karl Rove, Rinse Priebus, Paul,Ryan, Mitch McConnell, Jonah Goldberg, Bill Kristol, Charles Krauthammer, the entire staff of Townhall, FOX news, the CFR, the talk show radio hosts like Levin and Limbaugh. They are excoriating republican voters for turning out enmasse to vote for an upstart who is not adhering to their conservative party ideology . An ideology they themselves betrayed and corrupted once they were voted into office or were respected as principled and sincere spokesmen.

Now they sit on leather couches and chat about voting for Hillary or supporting a shifty unliked unpopular opportunist like Ted Cruz to preserve..... What exactly? Their comfortable existence? An ideology that has never faced a baptism of fire from a common sense guy who points out the emperor’s scanty wardrobe?

Now they want to say the people are too stupid and gullible to pick their guy who represents their party positions, so they will pick one for them.
