MADISON, Wis. (AP) – Ted Cruz says there is a risk that Donald Trump supporters would bolt from the Republican Party if he loses the nomination at the GOP convention this summer.

That’s why Cruz said in an interview on WTMJ radio in Milwaukee on Thursday that the best course is for the Texas senator to win a majority of the delegates before then.

“...He’s right about this Trump supporter. He needs to go ahead and educate the populace how his supporters will bolt if Trump wins the nomination.”

I’m sorry you feel that way, V.S.A.. But you are wrong about the great bulk of current Cruz supporters. If Trump wins the nomination (a better than 50% chance, IMHO), the great bulk of Cruz supporters will certainly support Trump in the general election.

I can’t see how I could in good conscience “vote the party” after all they’ve done to destroy the frontrunner Trump and undermine democracy.

This sounds like an early trial balloon “for the sake of the party, I am suspending my campaign..” Maybe today’s meeting of DJT and RNC is making some people wake up. Cruz would have to be offered something mighty big to just end his quest at this point. Probably SCOTUS, rather than AG.

Cruzers have been terrible to Trumpers. I even left for a few days because of it. I have never seen so much hatred and I have been here since 2001.

It’s a fact Cruz is conservative and Trump is not.

Which one weighs more than a duck.

Up until the campaigning for Wisconsin started, I had every intention of voting for either Trump or Cruz. Trump was my first choice, but I could "settle" for Cruz as my second choice. Kasich was out for me, and I had already decided that there was no way I'd vote for a Rubio or a Bush on the ticket anywhere.

Now I'm not sure where I stand on Cruz.

I believe the mistress scandal is real (specifically due to his reaction in that presser with Carly -- guilty all over the man's face). In researching that, I independently confirmed (to my personal satisfaction), that Cruz was behind the "Ben Carson is getting out" action in Iowa.

But my biggest problem is his comments and actions towards Trump. Cruz will start down a reasonable critical path for two candidates fighting for the same position. But then he veers off and embellishes whatever point he's making by 25%.

It's not "Trump attacked Heidi". It's "when he attacks my wife, when he attacks my daughters". We know Trump hasn't attacked your daughters. That's just incendiary -- when the truth would have been fine.

Every statement is like that -- "shutting down NATO", "Donald has a problem with strong women", "Abusive culture of the Trump campaign". Everything just embellished and blown up.

I will now have a very hard time pulling the lever for Cruz.

If Cruzers think that the establishment theft from Trump benefits them they are sadly wrong. They will throw Cruz out like an old shoe.

I will vote only for Trump; as the nominee or I write his name on my ballot in November.

I agree..but the entusiasm gap will be hard to replace if the candidate is any other than Trump...I think Cruz can give Hellary a run for her money especially in head to head debates and on the campaign trail...but it’s obvious that the GOP candidate will have to overcome the entire liberal/political establishment statehood and that’s where it gets dicey.

I won’t vote for Trump. In fact I CAN’T vote for Trump. I already voted for Cruz in the primary and I won’t have the chance to vote for Trump in the general because he won’t be on the ballot.

The Republicans would need to have a complete brain transplant if they stood aside and allowed a man of such colossal ignorance and ego to become the nominee. Trump is nothing more than a toxic combination of ego and mouth.

He just does not measure up.

Yes, a year ago it was likely the case that Cruz was more conservative than Trump. By allying with Ryan/Preibus/the rest of the GOP-e demanding a liberal agenda be pushed, he cannot be said to be conservative.

The key is to annihilate the Establishment wit a combined effort and get over the 127 thresh hold. Trump may actually do that but Cruz has no way. The Two must combine on the battlefield or the Two will be hung separately. The country is in the balance. TRUMP/CRUZ 2016!!

An “America First Party”, you would have the majority of voters right off the bat.

Reaching 1237 is not Cruz’s mission.

His mission is to prevent Trump from winning.

Unfortunately Senator Cruz has shown Trump supporters how much he hates them....over and over...calling them violent and low information for starters.

That’s exactly correct.

And how pray tell does TPA Teddy intend to win the general without Trump voters? Take for example Florida. Trump received over 1 million votes in winning every county but one. In 2012 the kenyan won FL by only 80,000 votes. If a significant portion of Trump’s voters follow the Romney Rule and write in their preferred candidate the race is over. Did they not teach math at Havard?

It seems clear at this point no Trump voters, no GOP. The party is dead without us. Cruz should buy a clue and get on the Trump Train before it is too late.

Yeah. That's what competitors do.
