Trump walks back statement on women being punished for abortion if procedure banned
Fox News ^ | 03/30/2016

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump quickly walked back a statement he made earlier Wednesday that if abortion were illegal in the United States, then women who have the procedure should be punished - saying later that only those who performed the procedure should be punished.

“If Congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal courts upheld this legislation, or any state were permitted to ban abortion under state and federal law, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman,” Trump said in a written statement. “The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb.”

Earlier, at a taped MSNBC town hall to be aired later Wednesday, Trump said if abortions were illegal, women should be held responsible.

Host Chris Matthews pressed Trump to clarify, asking him whether abortion should be punished and who ultimately should be held accountable.

“Look, people in certain parts of the Republican Party, conservative Republicans, would say, ‘Yes, it should,’” Trump said.

The candidate later put out a statement saying: “This issue is unclear and should be put back into the states for determination.”

Trump’s comments come at a time when he’s losing traction with women voters.

When asked specifically at the town hall what he thought, the New York businessman answered, “I would say it’s a very serious problem and it’s a problem we have to decide on. Are you going to send them to jail?”

Well if he's taking it back on someone’s advice, then he's listening to the wrong person/s, logic dictates if someone breaks the law, then they should be punished accordingly. That second answer he gave is a PC answer, and very un-Trump-like.

They need to let Trump be Trump, that's what brought him to the dance and quit trying to mold Trump into a more PC acceptable Trump. If we wanted someone whose just gonna say things for political expediency sake we'll just vote Cruz.

Conceding ground in the fight before we have gotten to the negotiations table is stupid. Secondly, the punishment for abortions doesn’t need to be defined within the law that makes it illegal.

That stance is also hypocritical. We protect those that choose of their own free will to murder their own child? How about we protect women by preventing abortions from occurring, not giving them a free pass to get an abortion and than work after the fact to get the abortionist.

Geez, like we haven’t gone around and around on this for 40 years. Read the history please -— or listen to those of us who lived it.

You are surely not going to punish all those “innocent” women, are you?”

Sounds similar to you're not going to deport all those 'innocent' illegal immigrants are you?

Obviously not. You either want to stop abortions or not. How do you stop women from wanting to get abortions? I can tell you how you don’t, but letting them have no responsibility for their actions.

“Yes, he is winning.”

Trump is already saying he will break his promise to support the Republican nominee. It sounds like Trump knows something you don’t know. And Trump is very angry about what he knows.

Something is going on with Trump. I don’t know what it is, but something is going on when Trump announces he will not keep his promise to support the Republican nominee. Voters have to find out the problem with Trump’s campaign before casting anymore votes for his constant backing and filling campaign.

OH right, like having a ‘conversation’ about illegals.

*Sigh*

And this is why I call it the Cruz cult. Because no one can possibly believe that Saint Ted can do any real wrong.

Okay, I’m done here.

But a convention’s pick of a guy that wasn’t in the running and has even less claim to the nomination is just as dumb.

How’s Cruz coming on that pledge?

Better than Trump the liar, who never meant it in the first place. Tell me are you sTrumpette enough to vote for small hands when he runs third party and put sHrillary in office? Because that was Trumps plan right from the get go.

The question is, how can the state best suppress the activities of abortionists so as to stop the felonious murder of children before birth. It is simply outside of the realm of possibility that this would be done by attaching criminal penalties to the women. Such legislation has not the slightest chance of passing, not even in the most conservative parts of the US: not in TX, not in UT, not in MS, ND, SD, not anywhere. You couldn’t pass it at Vatican City. You couldn’t pass it at Bob Jones U.

Anyone over the age of college sophomore with a lick of sense
knows this is true.

So wean yourself from this fantasy of meting out to aborted women their just deserts, and concentrate your mind on shutting down the already dwindling number of damned, woman-violating, baby- smashing abortionists.

A wise political axiom: do what you can, not what you can’t.
