Commentary: John Kasich, not Ted Cruz, is the one to stop Donald Trump
Chicago Tribune ^ | March 29, 2016 | Margaret Carlson

Step right up, folks, to the Ted Cruz-John Kasich game. The aim is to push out the candidate who could win in November in favor of the one who can't.

Everything else has failed to stop Donald Trump, but the Republicans' strategy of putting their few remaining eggs in Sen. Cruz's basket and insulting Gov. Kasich back to the Ohio statehouse is delusional — as is their assertion that a vote for Kasich is a vote for Trump.

Let's take a look: It's hard to believe that any politician could be doing worse than Hillary Clinton, who had a net unfavorable rating of minus 13 in a March Wall Street Journal/NBC poll, but Cruz, at minus 18, manages it. Kasich has a net positive 19. Every poll shows Cruz losing to Clinton. As for the nomination, the proposition that Cruz alone could stop Trump is wrong to anyone who reads exit polls, studies current ones or looks at the map.

What's more, Cruz is the most universally disrespected politician in the Republican Party, which he wears as a badge of honor. And Cruz doesn't have Trump's positives, if you can say such a thing about celebrity, a fake everyman persona, disdain — shared by his followers — for policy and a knack for memorable slogans.

When the gop switches their support to Kasich and Cruz finally drops out he’ll blame it all on Trump.

Rick Perry let the cat out of the bag. He said he thought it was going to Bush and him.

More proof that the Political Opinion Makers learned exactly the wrong lessons from the Romney debacle. The Republican/Conservative voters do not want another Socialist Lite presidential candidate.

The so-called "conservative" Political Opinion Makers prefer a Clinton win to a non-Establishment candidate like Trump winning. They WANT to nominate a loser.

Yes, Cruz withdraw and that would leave Kasich, anti-Second Amendment, pro Obamacare, big government, common core, amnesty, muslim immigration and wants a democrat as a running mate. hillary ultra liberal progressive, open closet door socialist. bernie, the marxist socialist. Trump, big government populist democrat running as a republican. That would leave four presidential candidates with no Conservative or Constitutional credentials. The election and fight for America would be lost the instant Senator Cruz would suspend his campaign

If the gop runs Kasich and Sanders is democrat nominee, I’ll vote for Sanders. Here’s why. If Kasich is in the gopE congress will give him all he wants which will be the same thing Sanders wants. If Sanders is in, maybe they’ll fight him just a little. Not that fighting Obama was ever in their playbook. But at least we’d be helping to get rid of the gop.

See, Ted? The GOPe will never install you as the nominee. If Trump doesn’t win it outright, you will be thanked for stopping him and then kicked to the curb in favor of some squishy RINO. And then they’ll put a primary opponent up against you and refuse to support your senate re-election. You cannot trust those snakes.

Even if they don’t give Cruz the boot after using him to stop Trump you still get Hillary as president.

What could Ted possibly say to the electorate that was just disenfranchised on technicality?

Vote Cruz, because you know, because.

Hey he won Ohio so let’s just give Kasich the nomination. That makes sense. LOL!

Though I am for Cruz .... I could support Donald, or anyone else other than Kasich!

I could have supported Kasich up until 3-weeks ago, however, since it became standard knowledge that he can’t win and only stays in it as a spoiler ....possibly hoping to create/benefit from mayhem at the convention ....

....I have learned to dispise John Kasich!

....and am joining the NEVER Kasich club!

It sure is helpful of the democrats to give republicans advice.

- “Gay ‘marriage’ is settled . . . bakers should bake the cupcake”, is not how you stand up for the religious freedom of those who object to participating in a parody of the sacrament of marriage. [That was Kasich]

- “No, I don’t regret voting for the Assault Weapons Ban” is not how you stand up for the second Amendment. [That was also Kasich]

- Expanding Obamacare in your state is not how you stand up for freedom and for limited government. [That was Kasich too]

- “But for the 11 million people, come on, folks, we all know you can’t pick them up and ship them across, back across the border” is not how you discourage more illegals from invading America and taking our jobs and our tax dollars. [Yes, Kasich again]

It’s no wonder the democrats at the Chicago Tribune like John Kasich. He’s a democrat too, except for the party label that he chose for no apparent reason.

Rick Perry let the cat out of the bag. He said he thought it was going to Bush and him.

Scott Walker said that if it went to a contested convention, the nominee wouldn't be any of the three left in the race.

Cruz should wise up. They will dump him quick!

We’ll see next week whether the Cruz supporters here actually support Cruz or just loathe Trump.

It depends entirely on who they cheer for in the coming weeks.
