One of the gunmen convicted in the 2013 Mother's Day shooting that wounded 20 people at a second-line celebration in New Orleans will spend the rest of his life in prison. U.S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle handed down the life sentence Tuesday (March 29) for Akein "Keemy" Scott, 22 -- and added 10 years in prison and five years of supervised release.

Scott pleaded guilty Sept. 9 to several charges related to his role in the FnD street gang, which operated in the 7th Ward near the intersection of Frenchmen and North Derbigny streets. Among the five violent acts that Scott admitted was the May 12, 2013, second-line shooting at Frenchmen and North Villere streets. Shots fired by Scott and his brother at a member of a rival gang struck 19 people. A 20th victim was trampled.

His brother, Shawn "Shizzle" Scott, 27, who also pleaded guilty to his role in the Mother's Day shooting, was sentenced to 40 years in prison with credit for time served. Upon release, he must serve five years on supervised release.

Two more brothers, Travis "Trap" or "Slim" Scott, 31, and Stanley "Stizzle" Scott, 24, were sentenced on racketeering charges to which they had pleaded guilty. Travis Scott, whom prosecutors described as the leader of the FnD gang, was handed a life sentence. Stanley Scott was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with credit for time already served, followed by five years of supervised release.

All were punished by U.S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle, whom President Bill Clinton appointed to the court.

The racketeering indictment says the gang members engaged in violence to further the distribution of more than kilogram of heroin. Other conspiracy charges accuse them of selling other drugs, such as crack cocaine. The sales often occurred at the Frenchmen

This crime caused a feces storm in NOLA. The locals were very upset and it put the police and mayor under a lot of pressure. Things were better for awhile anyway.

Shawn Scott, then 24, left, and his brother Akein, right, then 19.(Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office)

This is a correction that is at the bottom of the article:

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the alias and age of Shawn Scott. He is 27, not 24; and his alias is "Shizzle," not "Stizzle."

I guess you don't want to mix up shizzle with stizzle.

Why didn’t they get quotes from their moms?

I mean, it happened on mother’s day.

Second line parades in NOLA are small little neighborhood parades. They have them a lot for funerals. Instead of a funeral procession with cars they will walk the casket, usually in a horse drawn carriage, down the street with a band following behind playing and the mourners following behind the band.

I think it's more like Pep Boys, African-American urban subculture style.

Yeah, but I would want those brothers working anywhere near my transmission. It may just ‘disappear’!

Stupid mother&*#$@#s. Laugh it up in prison, especially the one who’s going to spend the rest of his natural life there.

Hope it was worth it, assholes.
