Top Kasich aide: Romney tried to help broker backchannel with Cruz campaign
CNN ^ | 3/28/16 | Dana Bash

(CNN)In a storyline that could be ripped from a House of Cards script, John Kasich's campaign is looking to coordinate behind the scenes with Ted Cruz's in a mutual effort to deny Donald Trump enough delegates to win the Republican presidential nomination. They even tried to get 2012 nominee Mitt Romney to help broker it.

The only problem for team Kasich is that Team Cruz is not interested. Kasich adviser John Weaver told CNN that Romney urged Cruz campaign manager Jeff Roe to contact the Kasich campaign, but Roe has yet to do so. Roe told CNN he did speak with Romney, but declined to disclose details of their private conversation. A Romney spokeswoman also declined to comment on discussions he has had with the campaigns. What Roe did tell CNN was that the Cruz campaign has no desire to work with Kasich because they do not believe there is any advantage in it to the Texas senator. Cruz officials insist the Ohio governor is a spoiler -- plain and simple -- because they say he does not take votes from Trump, only Cruz.

They want to block Trump - by any means necessary - to get a Jeb/Romney type Uniparty candidate in at the convention.

Ted is being fooled into thinking they’d ever support him. He will be cast aside at the appropriate time.

I don’t blame Cruz’s group for not really trusting Romney. Ever since Mitt’s Mad Moment about Trump, we all know how quickly he will turn on somebody in his own party.

So Cruz is not in league with the GOPe? But I’ve read literally thousands of posts here slamming him for being in bed with the establishment.

What the Hell are you talking about. Cruz was all up in Romney's butt in Utah and Romney endorsed him.

This kind of behavior is what fuels Trump. Are they that out of touch that they don’t know this?

The smartest man in the room? I think not. cruz is working hand in hand with jeb and romney because they have comon goals: beat Trump, do the cheap labor expresses bidding and advance one world order.

My guess is that when Teddy finally accepts reality he will try to cut his deal with Trump. Kasich has nothing to offer.

My opinion is that ship has sailed. I would think less of Trump if he ever took cruz in after what cruz did with the pics of Trumps wife.

Kasich is the most liberal candidate left in the GOP field.

If Cruz is more conservative than Trump which Cruz claims, but I don’t believe, then Kasich supporters would flock to Trump not Cruz.

And if Cruz is between Trump and Kasich and it becomes known, then Kasich supporters might go to Cruz, but Cruz’s base will abandon Cruz for Trump.

Either way, Cruz loses and Trump wins.

I’d like to put that on a bumper sticker. Or on billboards in Utah.

I would agree that the VP ship has sailed but Trump might put him on the bench.

He is in bed with the GOPe. No reason for Ted to go the Kasich route, he has already sold out to the GOPe. GO TRUMP GO

Why deal with an intermediary of the GOPe? Cruz is in league with the head honchos of the establishment, namely the Bush family. The Bushes look down on Romney. Even in the establishment there is a pecking order.
