So correct me if I'm wrong, but Myles is going to be the first youth civilian to receive the medal of honor? She said Yes, exactly. That's what you can tell people. This is historic. This is huge."
That was six weeks ago. Tiffany Eckert and her two kids, Marlee and Myles have been thrust in the spotlight in an unfortunate way. Her husband Andy was the first American Soldier killed in Iraq 11 years ago. She says, "Still to this day, I love him with all that I am."
She says they were able to find the beauty in the ashes of their tragedy. This medal was created with Myles in mind, and the hope that he inspires others.
He says, "I feel like my dad would be proud." On his 11th birthday, Myles received the nation's highest honor. "It was something very simple that I did. All I had to do was, I found 20 dollars, I gave it to Frank."
Myles found a $20 bill in a Toledo restaurant parking lot a couple years ago. And he paid it forward by giving it to a soldier that was also in that restaurant, with this note.
It reads 'Dear soldier, My dad was a solder, but is in heaven now. I found this $20 in the parking lot when I got here. We like to pay it forward in my family. So this is your lucky day. Thank you for your service."
Tiffany says her son's action to give the money to the soldier was natural. "My mantra is kindness always wins, and that's what has carried me through. that's why my kids are good people."
Um......
It’s not the Congressional Medal of Honor
It’s the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s Young Hero Award.
Bit of a difference.
Seriously wrong and confusing title.
There is no way in hell Congress would have awarded an 11 year old kid the nation's highest award for valor, even if Obama was stupid enough to support it.
Seems like the reporter either screwed this story up badly.
The kid is NOT receiving the CMOH. He received an award from the CMOH Society. HUUUUUGE difference.
Obama has no Idea what the difference is and could care less ,also goes for the writer
Personally, I think he couldn't care any less.
Headline is a cluster fox trot.
This is not the CMOH.
The reporter apparently took the mother’s word at face value, demonstrating her own complete ignorance of things military.
Thanks, that seemed odd to me too.
Headline is very misleading.
Unfortunately you can’t comment at the source page
But you can email the reporter....which I already did. It’s a nice story, but she’s done nobody a service by leading people to believe that out nation’s highest award for valor can be granted for a feel-good story.
NO. There is no difference or this journalist would have specified it!
The f-ing media cant even take a wholesome story like this and treat it with any kind of dignity. Obscuring titles and actions that totally misrepresent the TRUTH!
When I read the headline, I thought this might be a historical story about a drummer boy in the Civil War who kept on drumming though wounded, or something. Nope.
Yeah, quite a difference...
Persoanlly I think yuou underestimate our President.
The man is truly gifted in this regard.
The man is constantly breaking new ground in the matter of Carelessness.
Does Common Core teach Journalism, too?
I saw a film clip of the presentation, no CMOH. A nice story (otherwise) and a great kid!
