A waitress who was given a $40 tip by George W Bush later trashed the former president on Twitter accusing him of 'doing' 9/11.
Smith tweeted a photo of herself with Bush and wife Laura and added: 'Bush did 911 but he did me a solid and left me a hella tip #'.
But Leisa Smith's joke has backfired and many took to social media to call her out for her 'insensitive' and 'stupid' comments.
One tweeter commented: 'Bush didn't 'do' 9/11, terrorists did. Bush retaliated against them'.
While another said: 'I hope you work there till you 70 lol. You ain't ready for the real world! haha #Stupid.'
And a user called Bob Koch wrote: 'You gladly take his money and then dog him on social media? So disrespectful and uneducated. I hope you grow up and learn. Good luck'
But Smith claims that she was 'only joking' when she sent the tweet and 'doesn't actually think that Bush 'did' 9/11.
She told Mic: 'I have a couple of friends that use the meme a lot and they were the only ones I was expecting to see the tweet.
Smith also tweeted a statement that re-iterated that it was only meant as a joke.
She said: 'I don't believe Bush did 9/11 it was meant as a sarcastic joke. I didn't mean to make fun of 9/11 or the people involved, I was only trying to mock the people that believe in the conspiracy.'
She also added: President George W. Bush (sic) and his wife were the nicest people I have ever met and had I known the tweet would blow out of proportion like this I would have never tweeted it.'
And while the $40 tip on the $21.47 bill was generous, the former president is currently valued at around $20 million, according to TIME.

She only apologized because it went viral.
After reading the entire story, it appears her comment was an inside joke to a few friends who were making fun of conspiracy theorists that Bush did 9/11.
She wasn’t smart to tweet that, as twitter is public, but she wasn’t actually bashing Bush.
So now this waitress’s petty character is on display for the entire world to see. This is why manners and etiquette used to be taught to young men and women. Alas, today’s culture views manners and etiquette as oppressive symbols of the past. Its better to let it all hang out and say whatever you want, even to people who are generous with you.
“And while the $40 tip on the $21.47 bill was generous, the former president is currently valued at around $20 million, according to TIME.”
News flash: Rich people do not blow money just because. They aren’t rock stars. An almost 200% tip is awesome and any sane waiter would love getting that.
Wow, GW has aged, he looks just like his Dad
(for a quick moment, I thought it was his father G HW)
Taking a $40 tip from a man and slamming him on twitter is just rude in my opinion
But just reacting to headlines is so much more fun! /s
Take a photo with a man and his wife then disrespect him. Definition of classless itch.
He leaves 200% tip and reporter says Bush could afford 6 billion % tip. Well, only for a classy hard worker.
The girl gave a good apology I don't know what more can be asked.
Perhaps she thought it was no big deal since Trump seems to have been given a pass for debate comments that were not much different than hers.
Not quite sure what makes some folks want to hang onto something like this like a dog fighting over his last bone.
But would you give her a generous tip afterwards?
That’s what I sport. A generous tip. :)
I am more appalled by the fact that she actually used the expression “did me a solid”...
Rude insensitive ignorant behavior on the waitress’s part. And Time comments are even worse but typical of the slobbering dog liberals. Hopefully Gore, or Clintoon, Soros, Stephanopolus, will stop by for a burger and leave ms disrespectful a ‘real’ tip. Hell bill can even hit on her!
Looks like, from that pic, getting away from the rigors of the presidency and politics has done him some good.
I was the bar manager at a country club for 10 years. I used to tell people that the richest men in the club would break a fingernail trying to pick a dime up off the bar. A 15% tip was included on the bills.
Maybe she will wait on hitlary and get stiffed! Remember that story.oh but hitlary is for the little people.
That may well be true, but when will people realize there is not privacy on Twitter? All your followers have followers, they have followers, and so on. The real question here is why do people have Twitter accounts unless they are clear that possibly the whole world will read the tweet?
She has had her “fifteen minutes of fame”, so bye, bye!
If Bush is worth only $20 million, he is obviously an idiot compared to the Clintons...too dumb to figure out how to use your government position to shake foreigners down for millions of dollars in return for favors.
