Ted Cruz Closing In On Donald Trump In Crucial State (36-35% in California)

ed Cruz may be gaining on Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump in the largest remaining state in the Republican primary.

A new USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll of likely Republican voters published on Sunday showed the Texas senator, with 35% support, just 1 point behind Trump's 36% in California.

California is the largest and most delegate-heavy state remaining in the Republican nominating contest. In the poll, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, the third GOP candidate, logged a distant third with 14% support.

Other recent polls have mostly shown Trump with a large lead over Cruz and Kasich, and with the primary still over two months away, the polls could easily shift before election day.

Still, even if Trump wins the primary outright, Cruz's strength in California could still pose a problem for the real-estate magnate.

The Times/USC poll is one of the first released since Sen. Marco Rubio dropped out of the race, and could hint that Cruz has a shot at taking a large chunk of the delegates home in California. Thirteen delegates are awarded to the state-wide winner, while the remaining sum are awarded by whichever candidate wins each district.

The Sunday poll also found Cruz's strength concentrated in Los Angeles County and the Central Valley, one of the more rural parts of the state. Some observers further speculated that Kasich could play well in Democratic-heavy coastal areas. Taken together, Cruz and Kasich's support in California could hinder Trump's goal of securing the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the Republican nomination on the first round of voting.

California's primary is on June 7.

oh give it up LOLOL Fiorina looks like she's perpetually sucking on a lemon. Just like Hillary always looks like she's just finished another argument with Bill. an example of just two women who have made their lives arguing - and it shows in their countenance. When we are children, we are all beautiful; then we age, some more gracefully than others.

but this pretend Fiorina outrage is just a strawman. We're not in the DU PC room after all and adopting their Hollywood actress tactics is just silly.

The race is such a lopsided win for Trump that it’s ludicrous to suggest otherwise.

Absolutey right.
Cruz, if he's not tied up in a divorce court, should pack his bags to join jeb catchin' frogs. [he might have to 'pack his bags' anyway, and 'get out of the house']

SUMMING UP Ted won 8 states totaling a measly 385,000 votes.

Obviously, at the current pace, Trump will be the nominee.

I have observed the same exact thing. Outside of his home state and it’s satellite state next door, Cruz has lost ALL regular primaries. Only other wins are in caucus states where Cruzlims coerce others into voting for Cruz.

All other major remaining states such as NY, CA, PA etc are regular primaries.

That is correct. Trump lead in Iowa until Cruzlims circulated the false rumor that Carson was quitting the race, and passed an official looking document saying it was a violation to not vote for Cruz.

Trumpers can’t wait to pounce on this thread and declare that poll invalid.

But it is valid as are the many polls showing Trump cannot beat Hillary.

Here’s what Ted said this morning about Trump’s appalling lack of understanding of foreign policy.

Cruz said, “Sadly, what Donald has done, when he gets scared, listen, particularly on foreign policy, Donald doesn’t know. He doesn’t understand these issues.

One of the reasons he was so scared this week is this past week Donald called publicly for effectively withdrawing America from NATO. Now that is a catastrophically foolish proposition. Abandoning Europe, withdrawing from the most successful military alliance of modern times makes no sense at all.

If Donald were president, he actually did what he said he would do, withdraw from NATO. It would hand a massive victory to Putin, a massive victory to ISIS. ISIS would be dancing in the street at the weakness and isolation of Donald Trump.”

“Now the day after he calls for withdrawing from NATO, this Brussels terror attack occurs. Brussels, is of course, where NATO is head quartered,” he continued. “So his lack of understanding on foreign policy, his lack of ability and readiness to protect his country was evident.

So Donald did what he always he tried to find a way to change the subject. He hasn’t campaigned for a week. He’s been hiding in Trump Tower. late at night he sends tweets attacking my wife, attacking Heidi. It is inappropriate, wrong and disgusting to see a candidate attacking the spouse of another. And it is a sign of just how scared Donald is right now because he doesn’t want to discuss the substance.

That’s why he’s afraid to debate, why he refuses to debate because when he debates, his lack of understanding of the challenge of facing America becomes evident for everyone to see.”

Untill Trump bots provide the evidence to prove otherwise, Mair's ad had absolutely NOTHING to do with Ted Cruz. She said so herself on Twitter.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Something is very fishy with your poll. If Trump supporters are 83% likely to "enthusiastically vote for him", then why would they be less likely to vote in the June primary?

Trump will do well in Urban Liberal districts in LA County and the bay area while in more rural and suburban districts Cruz should do well.

You are right the ground game is very crucial.

Trump: Cruz's campaign bought rights to GQ photo

Hill ^ | March 27, 2016, 10:56 am | Rebecca Savransky Posted on 2016-03-27, 6:17:14 PM by Red Steel

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Sunday slammed rival Ted Cruz for the recent ad produced by an anti-Trump super-PAC featuring a photo of Trump's wife posing nude.

"From what I hear, he and his campaign went out and bought the cover shoot. Melania did a cover story for 'GQ,' a very strong modeling picture. No big deal," Trump said on ABC's "This Week."

"But it was a cover story for 'GQ,' a big magazine. And it was, you know, fine. And from what I hear, somebody bought the rights to it and he was the one or his campaign bought the rights and they gave it to the super PAC."

Trump said Cruz knew about the ad, adding he started the latest fight between the two. Last week, Trump threatened to "spill the beans" on Cruz's wife in response to the ad featuring Melania Trump. He then shared a tweet featuring a photo of his wife next to a photo of Cruz's wife, stating, "A picture is worth a thousands words."

Cruz has denied knowing anything about the ad, and called it deplorable on Sunday.

But Trump said the super PAC that produced the ad is "very friendly to Ted Cruz."

"He knew all about it, 100 percent," he said.

"There's no way in a million years that super PAC did that without his absolute knowledge."
