The idea that Evangelicals are “telling everyone how holy they are while the rest of us are lesser” is the supreme absurd fallacy of current politics.
It is the patience of evangelicals that keeps the uncivil cynical mean spirited American society in its relative state of productivity and sanity.
I think Good Friday is a great day to tell the actually self righteous evangelical reactionaries that they are the ones who lack humility, grace, patience, and so many other Christ like characteristics.
This society is NOT brimming with Christian judgmentalism.
It fascinates me that the most stereotypical example of this absurd allegation— The Topeka Fred Phelps God hates fags church— spent most of its time protesting conservative evangelical churches across America. This fact was NEVER addressed by our intellectual leaders.
Not only that, but Phelps was a big time democratic party operative for Gore and others.
Not only that but Jerry Falwell Jr. and the Dallas FBC pastor Jeffress have endorsed Trump not Cruz. The arguable heirs of self righteous in Christianity do not side with Cruz.
But we still get stern condescending lectures here at FR about Mormons like Beck.
