Not sure of the validity of this. Could be just rumors, but from some digging it appears that this has some legs prior to the FL primary. Seem the Rubio campaign new about this and wanted it released after the last debate.

Certainly makes sense of why no unity ticket interest.

From what I understand pro Rubio PACs, who are anti Trump, wanted the media to release the news. They were calling it “#TheThing”. After Rubio lost in FL these same PACs wanted the news suppressed because they felt it helped Trump.
