Pennsylvania delegates will go to convention "uncommitted"
email | 3/24/16 | PA GOP

Posted on 03/24/2016 6:40:12 PM PDT by JonPreston

It’s not winner-take-all. It’s not winner-take-most. It’s not even proportional.

The vast majority of Pennsylvania’s Republican delegates are technically “unbound” or “uncommitted.”

Used to be they all were, but this year party rules changed slightly, making 14 “at large” delegates bound to vote for the winner of the PA Primary, but on the first ballot only.

There are also three “automatic” delegate slots for the state party chairman (Rob Gleason), the National Committeeman (Bob Asher) and National Committeewoman (Christine Toretti).

The remaining 54 delegates, elected by Republican primary voters in each of Pennsylvania’s 18 congressional districts (three per district) remain legally “uncommitted.”

They are not bound to vote for any particular candidate and are free to exercise their own judgment in selecting a nominee.

That means there is no guarantee – whatsoever – that the majority of Pennsylvania’s delegates will go with the winner of the Pennsylvania primary.

In short, Donald Trump could win the popular vote in Pennsylvania but lack the organizational infrastructure to fill a slate of delegates who support his candidacy.

Interesting.

Trump will most likely win PA.

Was it Mencken who said if voting could change anything, they wouldn’t let us do it?

If so, what is the point of having the primary?

It won’t matter if Trump wins PA - 54 delegates are going to Cleveland uncommitted. You can rest assured they won’t be Trump folk.

Sounds as if they let the DNC write their rules for them.

I didn’t realize that no good sob Rob Gleason was still state chairman.

RNC is good at one thing: losing elections.

Yes that will give him a whopping 14 delegates.

I wonder who the uncommitted delegates will vote for? And the 14 after the first round of voting?

Clearly this will hurt Trump getting to the 1237—most projections relied on getting all PA’s delegates.

Primaries serve the same function as the Republican Liberty Caucus, ie, to let libertarians think they have some influence as they’re being ignored.

Wow they had 54 delegates and only 14 will have to vote for trump in the first round. That hurts Trump BIG TIME. Most projections had him barely hitting 1237—take away 40 delegates and he doesn’t hit it.

“If so, what is the point of having the primary?”

Exactly. Just another way for the party bosses to control to control everything. Same with the causus deal. They need all the people to vote.

If they end up going with someone other than the top or close to top finisher they are toast. I think people will vote democrat to spite the party and throw all the republican’s out of office.

Fact is two anti-GOPe candidates are at the top of the field. If they rig it to keep it a GOPe person it will backfire worse than just going with Trump as the nominee.

That was the delegate slate that killed Reagan in 1976. Reagan announced PA Senator Richard Schweiker as VP ahead of the convention in an attempt to change the outcome.

So you are openly advocating the subversion of the voters? Why exactly are you on this site?

And you think they will vote for Cruz.

The GOPe’s are using Cruz.

Only fools cannot see it.

I concur. I also will vote Dem in an effort to destruct the party. I feel like a black Democrat at this point... they rely on my vote and then work against me.
