Bomb attacks show how Belgium became an incubator of terror

BRUSSELS — The bomb attacks in Belgium offer new evidence of its security forces’ shortcomings in monitoring violent Islamist radicals, a failure that has allowed this country at the heart of Europe to become an incubator of terror.

One glaring example: Belgian authorities knew that at least one of the two siblings accused of blowing themselves up in Tuesday’s attacks — Ibrahim el-Bakraoui, 29 — had entered Turkey with the apparent intent of joining Islamist militants in Syria, according to a senior Turkish security official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject. Bakraoui was stopped by Turkish authorities last summer at the Syrian border and sent to the neighboring Netherlands. But Belgian officials now say that at the time, they did not equate his attempt to join the fighters with a possible terrorist threat.

His younger brother, Khalid el-Bakraoui, 27, was also monitored in Turkey, but it remains unclear what the Belgians knew about his movements. Eventually, Khalid el-Bakraoui became a logistical operative in the Paris siege that left 130 people dead in November, according to a senior European official familiar with the case. He then joined his brother in the coordinated attacks Tuesday that killed 31 people and wounded more than 270 at the Brussels airport and in the city’s metro system. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for both attacks.

It appears that one of the simplest ways of dealing with these animals, is simply, don’t let them into your country if you know who they are. The pc crowd will hate that rule until it kills one of their close friends or family members. Maybe not even then.

Universal-values liberals are modern-day snake handlers, I think. They have to prove their holiness.

Any Nation without Muslims is better off. We don’t HAVE to accept anyone’s entry into this country.

“We don’t HAVE to accept anyone’s entry into this country.”

That is the key, and the truth. Maybe we stop all “legal” immigration until further notice, to please the pc crowd that don’t want to discriminate against likely criminals and terrorists.

+1. The problem is, and always has been, one of immigration.

GW Bush did us a huge disservice by never admitting this, and by doing nothing to restrict Muslim immigration after 9-11

You know, that's what kept running through my mind as I read through all these outrages going on in Europe. They repeatedly had their chance, yet all that was offered after each offense (much like here in America) was equivocation, foot-shuffling, tap dancing and every other move they could make in order to evade reality.

As much as I have concern for my fellow humans, these events just don't register:

Liberal Democrats who want us to admit terrorists into this country under their pc rules should study what FDR (a famous Democrat) did to protect our country during WWII. If they were honest, they would either change their minds about how we should do it now, or condemn FDR who was successful in guiding the USA to victory in WWII.

What will it take to wake them up? If 911 didn't do it, I don't know what will. OTOH, it is probably cruel to personalize one's political views concerning terrorist attacks on ones who hold opposite views. Still it's a bitter fight, and one would hope the most practical measures to prevent attacks, whatever it takes, would prevail.

I just found out Dana Reeve died 17 months after her husband from lung cancer. She never smoked, but she was near ground zero and may have breathed in whatever toxic particles were there in addition to asbestos.

We are still reaping the carnage of 911 in the form of cancer deaths; I'm convinced there is a link.

“...Belgian officials now say that at the time, they did not equate his attempt to join the fighters with a possible terrorist threat.”

Seriously? Seriously?

The blood of each and every victim is on the hands of these officials and their counterparts throughout the West who refuse to see, name, or acknowledge terrorism when it stares them in the face. God rest the innocent victims’ souls and comfort their families. But, if the West is to survive, it needs a whole new cast of ‘leaders.’
