If there’s one thing we can count on today, it isn’t that the right thing will be done for our children but rather the wrong thing. Doubtless our growing legion of narcissistic red queens will very quickly be heard shrieking: Off with their heads of the homophobes!
I watched a few episodes of “I Am Jazz”, a show on TLC (we were staying in a hotel with limited choices of channels while house shopping). It was about a young middle school boy who his parents insist has identified as a girl from toddlerhood. He has always been allowed to dress as a girl - hair, make up, nail polish and real girls as friends. He is under a doctor’s care where he takes various drugs to hold off puberty. When asked if he would have surgery to remove his genitals, though, he was ambivalent. He was sad that he couldn’t find a boyfriend who was “okay” with his condition. I felt so sad for him and angry with his parents for their complacency.
