Ted Cruz: Donald Trump is ‘scared to debate’
Washington Times ^ | March 17, 2016 | David Sherfinski

Posted on 03/18/2016 9:07:24 AM PDT by reaganaut1

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas says GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump is scared to debate and that Mr. Trump looks down on voters, counting on them to believe whatever he tells them.

Mr. Trump, citing a prior commitment to speak at a policy conference hosted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), said Wednesday he would not be attending the GOP presidential debate that had been scheduled for March 21 but was ultimately cancelled.

“His excuse is silliness, and it reflects his assumption that he thinks the voters can’t figure out that he’s not telling [them] the truth,” Mr. Cruz said on Wednesday evening’s “The Kelly File” on Fox News.

Mr. Cruz pointed out that the conference hosted by AIPAC is a multi-day event — it runs from Sunday to Tuesday — and Mr. Trump’s schedule would likely have been accommodated.

“He chose to speak right in the middle of the debate [because] he’s scared to debate,” Mr. Cruz said.

“And, you know, he just, he looks down on the voters,” Mr. Cruz said. “He thinks they’re gullible and will believe whatever he’s saying. So I’m going to be in D.C. for AIPAC as well since Donald is running away from the debate. I’m happy to debate him there. If he wants, we can debate foreign policy, but the problem is, Donald doesn’t do very well in foreign policy [because] he doesn’t have even a basic modicum of knowledge.”

Mr. Cruz said he’s happy to debate Mr. Trump in Utah, where the Fox News debate was to be held, or Washington, D.C., or anywhere else.

Exactly right. The press is all the debates highlight...because they won’t do their jobs of vetting the candidates during news, they try to perform this service under the guise of offering us debate. Thus the candidates need not truly argue for their/against their opponent’s positions.

We settle for so little in terms of our candidates now. Slogans, sound bytes and platitudes will do.

Of course Trump is scared to debate. He blusters and whines and repeats empty platitudes. Just a few weeks ago he was supposedly dying to take on Cruz one-on-one, but quickly came to his senses and realized he may actually have to debate on substance and policy instead of bumper stickers.

Trump has already beaten Cruz and beat him pretty easily spending much less money. Cruz can't win the nomination honestly. Trump can. There is absolutely no reason to debate because there's no reason for a debate. Cruz has already lost.

Try to read this without cringing, Actual stuff coming out of Trump’s mouth at a debate:

HEWITT: Mr. Trump... Dr. Carson just referenced the single most important job of the president, the command, the control and the care of our nuclear forces. And he mentioned the triad. The B-52s are older than I am. The missiles are old. The submarines are aging out. It’s an executive order. It’s a commander-in-chief decision.

What’s your priority among our nuclear triad?

TRUMP: Well, first of all, I think we need somebody absolutely that we can trust, who is totally responsible; who really knows what he or she is doing. That is so powerful and so important. And one of the things that I’m frankly most proud of is that in 2003, 2004, I was totally against going into Iraq because you’re going to destabilize the Middle East. I called it. I called it very strongly. And it was very important.

But we have to be extremely vigilant and extremely careful when it comes to nuclear. Nuclear changes the whole ball game. Frankly, I would have said get out of Syria; get out – if we didn’t have the power of weaponry today. The power is so massive that we can’t just leave areas that 50 years ago or 75 years ago we wouldn’t care. It was hand-to-hand combat.

The biggest problem this world has today is not President Obama with global warming, which is inconceivable, this is what he’s saying. The biggest problem we have is nuclear – nuclear proliferation and having some maniac, having some madman go out and get a nuclear weapon. That’s in my opinion, that is the single biggest problem that our country faces right now.

(From Trump’s response, it’s clear that he either has no idea what the nuclear triad is, or that he had no idea what the question was and just decided to go with some sort of free-form jazz riff on the topic of “anything nuclear.” But even after Hewitt threw Trump another clue, he replied with total gibberish.)

HEWITT: Of the three legs of the triad, though, do you have a priority? I want to go to Senator Rubio after that and ask him.

TRUMP: I think – I think, for me, nuclear is just the power, the devastation is very important to me.

The next debate should focus on the Constitution.

Yes, and they should begin by discussing Section 1 of Article Two (the eligibility requirements for serving as president of the United States, under clause 5)

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

“You may or may not like Cruz but you cannot dispute his depth of knowledge of the Constitution.”

Like he stood up to the Leftist Thugs that denied Trump his First Amendments Rights, or those listening to Trump their Right to peacefully assemble?

Ok sure, let’s go with that. Trump is afraid to debate the guy who is trailing him in delegates. Yep, that’s the only reason. Got it.

Sure.

Only ass Cruz whips is his own, every time, without fail.

Cruz wants to debate/argue/pick a scab with Trump but he really should debate Kasich because Kasich is the one that could burn him. Kasich said so.

The son of a mailman WILL deliver !

Trump said he wanted a 1 on 1 with Cruz. Now that he’s basically got it, he wants no more debates because he knows it will be about policy.

It’s horrifying that some one can listen to (or read) that and somehow think that this is the man we need running our country. It reads like drunk haiku.

Trump: “Look my penis isn’t small, it’s YUUUUGE!..okay..”
“You’re a loser!”

That’s the Trump debate prowess in a nut shell.
The idea that this clown can compete with a man like Cruz that has argued and won cases before the Supreme Court is the height of delusion.
