I once preferred Cruz, and now prefer Trump. There are good solid reasons for that change, and I wouldn't call them "populist"

I wouldn't either. I would call what Trump is proposing "problem solving". Something unheard of in DC. Politicians throw money at problems as a bandaid effect in order to keep the problem alive for their reelection.

Well, that is certainly popular among conservatives who live in the real world. The purists call that “populism” and seem to prefer a guy who talks big and can’t lead. If Cruz had an ounce of leadership ability, he would have put the nomination to bed by now.

He ran on a platform of “I’m not Jeb” and Trump ran on a platform of “Make America great again”. And now, Cruz is just running on a platform of “I’m not Trump”. So, he is not only dull and lacks leadership ability, but he is too stupid to see the obvious.
