But to an extent he is correct. You are generally voting for delegates, not the person running. And to make it clear, some states tell the parties that the top vote getters must get the delegates, to avoid exactly what he is proposing.

Same thing with the election. You do not vote for President: you vote for electors. I think most of them are bound to vote the outcome by law also.
GOPe means to throw the election in any event. The whole story for them is the Nomination which is the ultimate award for service to the GOPe. Those so honored do not wish to be discommoded by being forced to assume office and the GOPe does not wish to upset its arrangement with the ruling Democrat Party by permitting them to be elected.
