Does Metro have the personnel required to do all of the electrical inspections system-wide in such a small window? Even contracting out for more temp help would take too much time to make everyone available for this task so quickly.

The only reason it was affordable was because the FedGov was subsidizing it with money from the entire country.

I can't help wondering if this is a cover story for a thorough inspection for other purposes..

Given what was paid, it should have been 4 stars. BTW, I was not commenting upon the product, I was commenting on the cost. If I recall correctly, the money spent was considered one of the biggest boondoggles known, until they built that tunnel up in Boston. The usual result happens whenever politicians and their cronies get into action: there is no limit when they are spending other peoples money.

“A private company would not shut down the whole system like this.”

The government would fine them.

In fact, because of a threat?

Well, I meant in the case of the government not being as they have been, which resulted in government takeovers of that part of the private sector in the first place.

Washington DC is a failed state, kept afloat by Federal taxpayer money. Metrorail is a money sump, run by the same people who populate and run DC, with the predictable outcome.

But the good news is they're running a streetcar now, too:

We'll see how long before it has its first fatality.

That’s why I started taking the VRE to union station from Manassas, and after that it is a 15 min walk to work, they are cleaner, you can eat as long as you aren’t messy, and I can nap better too and there are no thug wannabes with their pants down below their ass.

Always the green line I see, I guess that is where the trouble comes from, at least the orange and silver line are nice at least going toward Reston and Vienna, and from what I saw that is where the white girls are at, /sarc.

>> Couple years ago we rode the subway from the Virginia side to the baseball field several times. Thought it was nice. <<

When it opened, 40 years ago, it was pristine. Very nice indeed. And it stayed “nice” for a long time.

But no longer. It’s gotten so bad that a few months ago, federal authorities seized it and took it away from the incompetent locals who had been in charge. I hope today’s shutdown means that for once, the feds are serious about doing a better job than the locals.

I suppose it won’t be long before some dimwit walks out in front of the streetcar...probably looking at their phone’s screen, because you know how important it is to be connected and up to date at all times!

When I first moved to the DC area 30 years ago, the Metro was a very nice system. It was limited in how much it covered (only downtown and some of the major suburbs) but it was nice! The Metro Police were serious about keeping it that way too. Fawn Hall got a ticket for eating a banana, and I’ve heard of other people getting cited for drinking water. Now you see empty bottles and trash everywhere and the cars are dirty. I hope they get their act together but I’m not hopeful.

Dectective,

There you go again, just giving the good attributes of the DC subway system. ;)

And you forgot the additional “non-factor” of having to get 4 governments to agree before anything is done or changed: DC, VA, MD, and Congress

On the other hand, it does eventually get folks from where they got on to the train to the station where they want to get off of it.

And the Red Line is a horror story of its own.
