the conclusive consensus seems they can effectively do nothing.

they can’t fathom that all the other candidates lack in total what trump has in spades and that is the charismatic bravado of a leader

they are playing the old game by the numbers not realizing that is not the game Trump is playing and winning

What I believe in is "consent of the governed."

It's a concept that has been ignored and/or subverted by the "experts" (in the Friedrich Hayek sense) for far too long.
