The Maryland state senate begins hearings Wednesday on the Maryland Healthy Vending Act.
The bill requires 75% of the items in vending machines on property owned or managed by the state to meet healthy standards. [ ]
The legislation not only mandates the carrying of healthy snack choices, but also mandates the stocking of the vending machine in a manner where healthy options are in a position with the highest selling potential.

Nanny staters are criminals violating the freedom ,
Tear and feather them and run them out of town on a rail.
Liberal tyrants demand that females have “freedom of choice” to kill their babies or not.
But want to deny citizens the freedom to choose their own snacks?
Michael Savage is right - liberalism is a mental disorder.
What they say is healthy has never been healthy. They’ve always been wrong on nutrition and pretty much everything else.
Some things border on infinite ... stupidity in Maryland is one of them!
Psst, I got’cha some primo gummy bears in my trunk.
How about letting vending machine owners stock their machines with items the public wants?! Let the market decide. I can’t imagine living in these socialist hellhole states.
Bwahhhaaaaaaaa. Market, Maryland. Snort, har har.
They know nothing of the market here. I realized that a few weeks after moving here and passed Security Blvd and Government Park.
Because nothing says “attractive, tasty snack item” like a small bag of kale.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Freak State Nanny State PING!
Nanny State PING!
“Id put good money on what is called healthy is in fact not healthy.”
Indeed. Most fruit isn’t really all that healthy: loaded with carbs and fructose.
Grains aren’t really all that healthy either, and you can’t exactly vend most grain products unless they’re turned into something REALLY unhealthy, loaded with PUFAs, excess salt, empty calories.
High-quality jerky would be healthy, but GOOD jerky is expensive.
“Im getting to where I HATE government.”
What took you so long?
I spent twelve years running a vending route- we would sometimes put “healthy” snacks in the mix (baked chips, granola bars, that sort of thing). Then we would be obliged to throw them away once they went out of date (as they always did). Meanwhile I had to have two rows of Snickers and M&M’s in every machine (even the ones that I filled three times a week) to keep up with the demand.
Jee, I didn’t see this cominig...
You can thank the smoke gnatsies for empowering the food gnatzies.
I’m notoriously “slow-boil”.
So, what is next?
The vending machine is for "Jerks! I work with Jerks! Better sooth my soul with chocolate" moments.
"Yo Ding Dong, Man. Ding Dong. Ding Dong, Yo."
Good one!
