I believe the comment was made sometime during Greta's live coverage of the mob scene so it might have been John Roberts who said it but I'm not certain.
I agree, it was clearly planned. Chicago was an obvious opportunity to incite a riot which could be blamed on Trump. Cruz, Kasich and Rubio all had their messages planned and were ready to pile on in unison with Fox and CNN. But what actually happened was quite different. Trump has now transcended all of the other candidates. Instead of becoming the inciter of violence as was intended, he is now clearly defined as the defender of free speech, the anti-thug candidate, the candidate who you support if you oppose thugs, radicals, BLM, Move On, etc & etc. Nothing the other candidates may say is relevant at this point. They may as well save their breath, because no one is listening. Trump is now a symbol, more than a person: he stands on one side of a culture divided between traditional American values and anarchy.
Just after the rally was cancelled, I heard David Gergen on CNN announce that Chicago had cost Trump the nomination, that he was finished. How blind can some people be? Chicago has handed the nomination to Trump, if not the election.
