~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: United States Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida

United States Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater (CGAS Clearwater) is the United States Coast Guard's largest air station. It is located at the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport in Clearwater, Florida and is home to nearly 600 USCG aviation and support personnel.

As of July 2015, there are thirteen MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters, two HC-130H Hercules (including the Coast Guard's oldest operational HC-130) and five HC-130H7 Hercules aircraft assigned to CGAS Clearwater.

Air Station Clearwater also operates two aviation facilities in The Bahamas, one at Great Inagua and one at the U.S. Navy's AUTEC installation at Andros Island.

These facilities support continually deployed HH-60Js and MH-60Ts from various air stations for Operations Bahamas, Turks and Caicos (OPBAT), a joint U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Coast Guard anti-drug and migrant smuggling operation.

The HC-130 first became a part of Air Station Clearwater in 1976. The Lockheed HC-130H model is the current version assigned, with 7 such aircraft in the air station's inventory. HC-130s from Air Station Clearwater have deployed worldwide including most of the contiguous 48 states, Alaska, Hawaii, throughout the Caribbean, Central America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

The 9 Sikorsky HH-60J Jayhawk helicopters previously assigned to the air station have since been replaced by 13 upgraded MH-60T Jayhawk versions. This aircraft has a long-range capability of 600 nautical miles to support Coast Guard cutters on Law Enforcement patrols, deliver dewatering pumps to sinking vessels, evacuate injured crew members from vessels far at sea, and many other missions.

Air Station Clearwater helicopter aircrews fly an average of over 400 Search and Rescue cases each year along both the east and west coasts of Florida, the Bahamas, and beyond.

I don’t know about whupped into shape. He was a slacker today. A bit slack yesterday, too.

I got the #2 DVR cam to work and saw that Windy got a good feeding this time. Poor thing was unlucky enough to get the tail tonight, though. It takes a while to work that sucker down. LOL

They won’t eat again for a while. Tummies all full.

TV and computer are all in one room so I watch all at the same time. Hubby has a tv on his computer desk in his man cave. Only way for us to keep up with everything. :-)

Heck, she was feeding him/her other pieces while the tail was still there. LOL! Amazing the things that go on over our heads, out of view.

Hubby’s seen a juvenile eagle hanging around the farm lately. Maybe it’ll decide it likes it here and homestead when it’s old enough to start its family. It would be neat to have bald eagles on the farm. We have plenty of wooded acreage.

Wouldn’t that be awsome to have your own eagle??

We don’t even have eagles here. They don’t seem to like nesting in our mesquite trees. The tallest ones are only about 10 feet high. LOL!

There are a lot of eagles in the area but we don’t see them at the farm very often. Same with Great Blue Herons. Lots of them around but we only see them occasionally when they fly over the farm.
The back of the farm drops off into a large lake so there’s plenty of water and fish for those types of birds.

A couple of years ago, a flock of seven Whooping Cranes stopped off in the area for about three weeks and spent a week of that time here. We took pix and I emailed copies of mine to one of the wildlife organizations that tracks them. Their color-coded bands were visible enough they could figure out which ones they were.
It was the first time in seven years the whoopers had stopped off in the county. A friend of mine is a hard-core bird watcher and I told him to bring his other bird watcher friends here to observe them while they were here. An easy location to observe from.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the woods next year to see if an eagle nest is built.

The rain is letting up here. I understand there were tornado warnings earlier this morning around D-FW. May get another round tonight.

It should cool off soon, for you. It was 37 deg. this AM as I headed in to work at 5:45.

We have fresh snow on the mountains above 6000’...I haven’t seen the lower elevations, yet, they’re hidden behind the building on the other side of our parking lot.
