Theodore Roosevelt stayed in the Republican Party and supported the widely believed to be corrupt James Blaine for president. Many GOP purists left the party to support Dem Grover Cleveland, who was an upright guy even if they disagreed politically. Worked out all right for Teddy.

And if Ted Cruz is the “best shot” the Republican Establishment has to stop The Donald, they are in far more trouble than they have yet admitted.

Blood-shooting-out-of-their-eyes frightened and scared.

I love the smell of flop sweat in the morning. Better than napalm and gunpowder taken together, because they are in the process of self-destruction. Nary another shot has to be fired.

That’s the pair that was wished for when it all started here on FR. Sure blew apart along the way. Watch for exploding heads here on FR if that is what happens:)

If what you are saying is true, and Cruz is only out for himself, then let’s examine it.

If Cruz prevents Trump from getting the nomination with his own delegates and it goes beyond the first ballot (which I don’t think it will because of rule 40(b) but that is a different discussion), then how does that benefit Cruz?

If the GOP establishment gets the chance to pick someone they want, do you think it will be Cruz?

Of course not! It will be Romney or Rubio or someone like that. So what does it benefit Cruz to behave that way?

If Cruz is only out for himself but can’t win the nomination with his own delegates, wouldn’t he look for a way to get as much as he could?

If Trump offered him the VP slot, why would Cruz (who is only out for himself) side with the GOP establishment to turn Trump down?

It is ridiculous to claim that Cruz is only out for himself and then suggest that he would behave in a way that would only be detrimental to him.

This is coming from the Evil One.

There’s a reason that Cruz is being attacked like this.

I have absolutely no doubts about his sincerity and firm commitment to conservative values.

The GOPe will only “back” Cruz as a means to get a brokered convention, then they’ll hang him and run Romney/Ryan. Cruz isn’t stupid; he sees what the GOPe are doing. Cruz hates duplicity. That’s why I think at the end of the day he’ll ask his supporters to jump on the Trump Train. Just my two cents.

Sure pick a guy who won 2 actual primaries and a bunch of little attended caucus’.

Relax. Trump wants to win a contest; he's not asking for a coronation. Trump himself has asked for a one-on-one with Cruz. He knows that those of us who are trying to be Cruz delegates are least likely of the three remainng Trump alternatives to cooperate with GOP-E shenanigans, and half the Establishment hates us more than Trump (Big Ag could probably deal with Trump, big Political Consultancy can probably deal better with Cruz).

If it winds up Trump vs. Cruz, the Jennifer Rubins of the world may go away and make room for regular folks and ardent conservatives. Some of us prefer Cruz because of the kind of conservatives we are, just as Trump supporters have valid reasons for supporting Trump. Let it play out. Trump is doing fine, and he will have more opportunities in Michigan and the big northeast states.

Cruz can’t ‘give’ delegates to Trump. Many states allow their delegates to be ‘released’ by a candidate, but I’ve never heard of any state rule requiring (or prohibiting) one candidate’s pledged delegates to vote for for another candidate on his say-so.

Any FReepers out there know of state rules binding delegate votes this way?

The vast ego of Trump will never allow him to pick Cruz as his running mate and I seriously doubt that Cruz would run with him.

Trump is against everything conservatives here used to be for.

He preaches anti immigration yet admits to hiring illegals.

He is totally ignorant on abortion issues to the point that he thought Planned Parenthood was a good thing for women.

He is immoral in his personal and business life.

I simply cannot account for how he has fooled the gullible people here who somehow see him as a savior.

He will let you down, people, as he has let so many people down along the way.

That’s right.

Trump cannot seem to recall who David Duke is.

Remind you of anybody?

I cannot recall.

Preparing Romney to destroy the current Republican Party and lose to Hillary for an exclamation point.

I keep seeing references to the GOPe purposely losing the election, but in reality, as Hill says "what difference would it make" if the GOPe candidate won?

There is only one candidate talking about illegal immigration. Without the ability to control the nation's foundation, it doesn't matter which side of the uni-party is elected.

Well, I’m wondering the same about delusion.

Cruz is sounding unhinged, imho. He reminds me now of a mad scientist. Frantic, desperate and grasping, and even using fabrications to frame it all. Looks bad.

Especially after the Saturday results boosted his morale and fed into his delusion that he and not TRUMP is the victor, somehow.

I hear he is ill today and missing his rally in, wherever.

Analogies aren’t exact. But Mugwumps definitely saw themselves as standing against a corrupt insider establishment. Problem was, most of them just ended up being co-opted into the Democrat version of Progressivism, which turned to be much worse than T. Roosevelt’s GOP version.

His entire history reveals him as a liberal.

Why do you people want a fake liberal when you can have a real one...Hillary Clinton.

And that is exactly who you will have if you succeed in nominating Trump.

He cannot beat Hillary.
