Disconnected from reality...

I’ve been poor...living hand to mouth, paycheck to paycheck, WIC for our newborn...years later still in debt as a result of not using welfare but “paying” our own way.

Now it’s racism against whites that is going to become a campaign “issue”...I suppose it has its place what with the “white guilt” and all.

That’s a gigantic slap in the face for tens of millions of poor, rural whites. Having grown up in the rural south, I can introduce him to plenty of white neighborhoods that are dirt poor by any standard in this country. My advice to Bernie: before you run your mouth and try your hand at race pandering, maybe you should try leaving your gated community, because you just proved that you are a complete dumbass.

In my case he is right.

While there was a time in my life that I had no money, I was never poor. BUT I took stock of myself, made a plan, learned what it took to move out of poverty, worked hard to execute the plan without the help of government, paid back generously everyone who helped me and now am helping others.

Sanders will only succeed on the backs of others.

Wow. What an asinine thing to say. But typical of liberalism.

I wonder when Bernie was young if he had powdered milk in his cereal and oatmeal.

That’s particularly funny coming from him, since he’s from Vermont. There are plenty of “poor” whites in his own state, living in trailers or rundown small houses out in the woods. And I saw plenty of “poor” whites when I was going to school in Mississippi, again living in trailers and cottages out in the country.

But then, Bernie likely has a very different definition of “poor” than a reasonable person would have, one that by its very nature excludes whites.

Thanks for posting this. You just wrote the story of my life. I well remember the #3 washtub that we used to take baths in, drawing water from a shallow well to fill it up, warming water on a wood burning stove and the outhouse. I’m white and came up very very poor!!

Yes we do! The poor all (ok 99.5%) have cell phones, shelter, TV’s, food (via healthy EBTs), medical care (via Obamacare), and incomes (via EITCs). Just like us!

Not trying to be flippant, but after 50 years and $22 trill in Federal wealth sent their way, how can there still be any poor?

Time to let the state’s and counties handle it, Bernie.

Neither does 98% of those claiming to be poor in the US. You want poor outside of Appalachia you have to leave the country to see poor.

Poor here means 2 tv’s instead of 3 and only 2 cars and a modest data plan for you phone.

We had running water, and heated with wood instead of coal but didn’t have electricity until I was 12 years old. Took baths in a tub and used an outhouse during the day because though we had indoor plumbing it wasn’t the best. My mother made most of my clothes. I had no idea we were poor though until one of my teachers told me we were when I was in 3rd grade. I remember arguing with her about that and my mother was sure mad at her.

That’s funny. I always had shoes, cloths and a coat when I was a kid, but we were easily considered poor. If the family homestead wasn’t there I don’t know were we would have been. Raised much of our on meat & vegetables and going to a shopping center was a ~once a month affair.

My mother wasn’t a crack whore, All us kids have the same father and he lived with the family. Maybe there are different requirement’s (outside of financial assets) to be considered poor today?
