This is rich coming from Durbin who was part of the Gang of 8. The Gang of 8 guarantee American companies would never have to hire another native STEM worker again. #NeverMarcobot.

A lot of this offshoring of jobs is due to our tax structure, global trade deals etc...which is what Trump is saying he’ll rip up. So I guess Durbin is voting Trump then?

It sucks to lose a job, I know. But a 60 day notice to find new employment is rather considerate on the part of the employer. A lot of times companies will give two weeks notification, or even worse, employees will show up for work and all of their belongings will be in boxes at the door to the building and they will turn in their IDs, pick up their boxes, and go home without a job.

This case is not offshoring. The company is firing all the Americans to bring in HB-1 visas.

Trump needs to pound this home. Events on the ground favor him. Nobody in Washington I going to change or correct this.

Disgusting. We need an H1b tax of 250K per FTE!

Also an L1 tax of 100K per FTE. And make firms strictly liable if more than 3% of their workforce is on a Visa program.

Next waive the patents , since that intellectual capital is out the door anyway.

I had no notice when I lost mine. Walked in to work, within five minutes I was unemployed. Absolutely shocked. After nearly 14 years of service I was given three weeks severance pay.

Hardy. Wish these guys had the will to walk off the job.

Hold congressional hearings. Hold the companies strictly liable.

The ‘externalitities’ or costs to society have gone too far.

Yah, that’ll teach me to actually read the article. ;)

This exact thing happened at a friend’s IT department. Sucks but I don’t think anyone currently running for President would fix it. H1-B sounds like a good idea (bringing in the best and brightest from around the world will grow our national talent pool) but, like many ideas that sound good, in practice it’s used in ways that aren’t intended (firing people to bring in lower cost people).

Ugh.

My brother lost his geology job after 16 years with no notice. They kept the 3 new hires (2 foreigners and one new graduate) on to run the exploration department and let go the 5 senior guys. They offered brother one month to train and he told them to suck it. Had a job in 2 weeks with a competitor.

That's easy to say, until you're in their shoes. Then, that "six weeks' pay, plus a week a year" looks pretty scant.

Everyone that I've known in that position - myself included - has used the time between notification and severance to look for work. If you find a job in that time....hasta la vista.

In my particular case, the timing was such that I worked a deal with my new employer to step out of my old job, into my new one, and get the severance pay as well. Dumb luck combined with good negotiating and a good (new) employer. It made a nice house down payment.

The jobs are going to India. That’s not an H1B.

It’s bad, but not the same thing. People aren’t being brought here to do the job, the work is being outsourced to a firm in India.

Hey Stupid! Why do you think this happens? It’s because the cost of doing business here is higher than almost anywhere else on the planet, and you idiots in DC are responsible. How ‘bout this for starters:

1) Shit-can Obamacare. It adds so much to labor costs that it’s cheaper to only hire part time or to ship the job overseas.

2) Lower corporate tax rates. You’ve manage to convince the idiots out there that business is the bad guy, when in fact it is you. Where do you think the businesses get the money to pay their income taxes? From the consumer, you dunderhead. Look at what happened to economic growth in Chile when they reduced corporate and personal income taxes—it’s the fastest growing economic system on the planet. Do this and foreign companies would flood into the US, unemployment would drop, and tax receipts would actually rise.

3) Cut Federal spending and personal income tax rates. The phonies in Hollywood and Omaha say taxes are too low. Really? Then let’s see you open your checkbook and write a multi-million dollar check to the IRS over and above what you owe. Otherwise, STFU...we’re struggling out here!

This doesn’t solve everything, but I’d sure like to see it.

Its both. I have lived it intensely.

The only reason I am brought back is because I have a reputation of fixing ‘broken’ applications.

This has been going on since the ‘90s effecting thousands.
If the UniParty didn’t do anything then, it won’t do anything now.

Biggest offender has been CA politicians on both sides of the fence.

It’s happening all over and we have two Republican Senators running for President who gleefully clap over this news.

Apparently Americans don’t care about their children and grandchildren anymore.

Bull. It's due to the fact that outsourcing IT functions overseas looks good on a corporation's bottom line.
