How Donald Trump broke Fox News' debate rules

Donald Trump consulted with his campaign manager during the first commercial break at Thursday night's Republican debate, violating ground rules from Fox News stating that candidates would not be allowed to have contact with their campaigns, rival campaign sources told CNNMoney.

While that exchange was the clearest violation of debate rules to date, the sources said, it followed a pattern: At multiple debates, Trump has consulted with his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski backstage even though it was expressly forbidden by the networks.

Thursday night's debate in Detroit marked a new extreme, however, as Lewandowski went directly onto the stage to meet with Trump during the commercial break. As in previous debates, Fox News had explicitly informed the campaigns that candidates were not allowed to communicate with their campaign staff during commercial breaks, the sources said.

When Lewandowski was asked by Fox News staff to leave the stage, he refused to do so, according to a source at Fox News.

Lewandowski and Trump campaign spokesperson Hope Hicks did not respond to requests for comment.

I don’t get the point of the rule.
Of course he shouldn’t break it.

All the anti-Trump name callers and smear artists can add this to their list of complaints.

"How can you vote for him, he broke Fox's debate rules"

And someone can respond in support "don't bother, they are dumb and don't think and don't care about anything because they are zombie cult idiots"

There, saved you all some time.

Was it as godawful as Megan Kelly challenging Trump on Trump U, quoting things to him like Candy Crowley did in 2008? THAT was egregious. Not that I watched the debate, thank you - just a clip I saw.

But it’s fine for Fox to stack the audience with squealing foam party enthusiasts.

I think Trump should get get a special dispensation for breaking the “rules” of a debate where 5 yapping hyena’s were tasked with trying to take down a lion.

He needs the help. The man has no idea what he is saying about most of the issues and can’t remember what positions he has taken from moment to moment.

What Fox news put on was not a debate, it was an orchestrated attempt to derail America’s choice for President. So, they violated ethics...what Trump did was fine given that fact.

As long as it wasn’t a FEC rule, Trump is ok....

Fox makes rules up for different people to promote themselves....

Trump’s ok on this...the debates are over anyway, the people are sick of these things and we already know who we are voting for...

Great! More proof that Mr. Trump will be a clever and ruthless leader, a man who will not allow mere rules, regulations and laws dictate his behavior.

What the USA needs now is a Bonaparte, not a Jefferson nor a Madison, not even a Lincoln or Reagan. Led by a strongman who can make our metaphorical trains adhere to their schedules, our country’s future possibilities are limitless!

O-o-o-o-o-o-h!

I hate to break it to you, but it gets worse. I have it on good authority that after the debate, Trump's car went one mile of the speed limit for five whole seconds.
