Hearing that Mitt Romney may enter this race, tells me that the GOP is destined to die, outright, in 2016.

Is government the solution or the problem?

Is that a rhetorical question?

Very good post.

Nobody. No Republicans. No democrats. No media people. No government functionaries, or bureaucrats.

Nobody is for American jobs anymore.

Except now, one guy is speaking up:

Donald Trump.

They are killing us. The only one that gets it on trade is Trump. The trade deals we were suckered in to have done nothing but devastate our manufacturing and textile industries. Millions of jobs lost.

Why is Trump so cocky? Because he knows it is going to be extremely easy to kick this economy into gear just by getting rid of many of the Obama/Bush/Clinton executive orders that have held the country down.

Like the problem with the illegales, it’s not so much we got suckered by the deals, but that we’ve never been willing to enforce them. Trust but verify. Those deals should have been been canceled years and years ago due to violations by China, Mexico, and others.

We can compete if EPA, OSHA, DOE, Interior, IRS, and other federal agencies get the F out of the way.

We have a government program called NAFTA. Its no more free trade than OBamacare is Affordable Health Care.
I think many Conservatives are still under the illusion that we have free trade and renegotiate a government trade program make Trump’s anti-free trade

Here’s what I don’t get - we keep hearing that we need to be a hi-tech economy and it’s OK that textile and menial, manufacturing jobs go overseas. I don’t support that premise. I mean, if we didn’t have these alphabet departments and high corporate taxes, Nike could be building its factories on the South side of Chicago, or in Baltimore, for example.

In the words of another astute FReeper who’s name I can’t remember:

If the establishment knows how to fix the economy, why haven’t they?
If the establishment knows how to create jobs, why haven’t they?
If the establishment knows how to get rid of terrorism, why haven’t they?
If the establishment knows how to fix cronyism and corruption, why haven’t they?
If the establishment knows how to fix health care, why haven’t they?
If the establishment knows how to stand up to the democrats, why haven’t they?
If the establishment knows how to fix all of our problems,
WHY HAVEN’T THEY ?

I want to go back to JFK. My understanding is that it is a JFK EO that allows Federal employee unions.

Gov’t could help, but Gov’t is also part of the problem.

eg. I am told by people in the industry that it is so difficult for cast iron foundries to meet EPA guidelines, that they are moving offshore just for that reason.

in some cases, profitable factories are moved because they can make more money offshore (eg Carrier)

when a big manufacturing plant closes, there is a secondary effect on all the support industries: tool and die, chemical supplies, raw materials wholesalers, transport... etc.

in a big future war, the USA will need all those businesses to do war production. Right now, too much is being supplied by the likely opponents.

Once America is defeated and taken over by a foreign power, the “right” to free trade and free movement of people and the “right” not to be drafted won’t be worth anything. A conquered people will take what they are given.

Countries that wish to remain free need to be able to defend themselves: manpower and equipment.

There are a lot of reasons for this. I say a big part of it is over-regulation in general and the EPA in particular, then over-taxation, evirowhackos, corrupt gov’t and politicians....

Don’t forget the lawyers and tons and tons of laws.
I have an employee who is rightly skeptical of Trump.
He has been saying show me specifics. Well, Trumps plans for healthcare are out.....and I said take a look. He asked a legitimate question.....Where is tort reform? We have all heard that before. He is right. Where is tort reform?
Lawyers and too many laws are helping to hold the US back.
Liability reform is a good place to start.

Jim, you know the answers to those questions. It simply costs too much to build a widget in America for a number of reasons; taxes, real estate cost, material costs, maintenance cost, leagal costs, insurance costs, inflation, poor education, and labor costs, to name some of many. The bottom line? We cannot compete with foreign widget builders that have the same machines to build widgets we have and, ten percent of our fixed cost, better work ethic, and labor costs that may be less than ten percent of ours, and open access to our markets. With open markets our workers will eventually be getting paid the world average wage for making widgets. Or we won't be making widgets. And making widgets is making wealth. We have been living on our past and it won't last much longer. It is as simple as that.

I’m not knocking Ted Cruz, but he hasn’t a clue about business, economics, accounting, trade, finance. This stuff is second nature to Trump. He’s been living it for five decades. He already has Icahn on board.

“We have a government program called NAFTA.”

You will be interested to know that NAFTA is part of the Agenda 21 plan to destroy this country.

It’s right in the Preamble under Goals: “Support Sustainable Development”
