Republican Ted Cruz's hopes of a sweeping nominating victory in his home state of Texas are being eroded as Donald Trump taps into conservative anger over immigration.
Polls show Cruz, the U.S. senator from Texas, is poised to win the state's nominating contest on Tuesday - the biggest voting day so far in the 2016 race - a result seen as essential to keeping alive his chance of winning his party's nomination.
But he could be stopped short of thresholds required to sweep its 155 delegates to the Republican convention if national front-runner Trump and other rivals win enough of the vote.
Cruz needs as resounding a victory as possible to stay competitive on a day when Trump is expected to put in a dominant performance in other states voting on "Super Tuesday".
Interviews with more than two dozen voters in Texas suggest that Trump's anti-immigration platform - which includes building a Mexico-funded border wall and deporting millions of illegal immigrants - could present Cruz's biggest weakness against the real estate mogul.

Just to add -
the ‘majority’ is the majority of *delegates*. A candidate need not get a majority of the votes.
The GOP hates Rubio?
He is their golden child.
I have no doubt that Beck's endorsement hurt Cruz, however.
Cruz said he’ll enforce the immigration laws and then illegals will self deport.
Do the voters out there realize that Trump is ‘malleable’, as Jimmy Carter put it, and has already been changing his stance on illegal immigration?
Nonsense. Beck OPPOSED Milt until the end. Please no revisionist history!
Romney’s larger margin had less to do with his own popularity than it did with the unpopularity of his opponent.
Cruz DEFINITELY has changed his position on H1-B visas, after he realized he’d been duped. That is to his credit.
Cruz has opposed every immigration law that the establishment has proposed. What more could anyone want from him?
Rule Of Law
We have had immigration laws for hundreds of years. They have worked. Unfortunately, everyone seems content to support lose who break the law, illegals.
Anyone condoning amnesty should be considered supporting a felony. Any politician advocating amnesty should be thrown out of office for violating his sworn oath to the American people and the Constitution to uphold the rule of law.
The open border pricks like Hillary, Cruz, and Rubio should not be allowed to run for President. How can anyone support a candidate who breaks his trust with the people and the Constitution?
True. And some states have delegates awarded by the legislature or the party.
WOW! The guy’s not perfect. Did he contribute money to the enemies of freedom such as Pelosi, Rotten, Chuck U, Reid, Emmanuel, Crist, Rendell, Emmanuel, Kerry, and many, many more. But let’s not think about that!
I believe Colorado actually stopped having a primary in order to enhance the influence of their national delegates.
There is the human consideration, and there is the legal consideration. Trump’s legions are like the mobs who followed every leftist charlatan for centuries. Tell the mob what it wants to hear, and they will break heads for you!
Weep for America? Is that what you are suggesting?
I totally disagree. Beck was downright hostile to Milt until the nomination was secure. Does Beck support Reid, another Mormon? No, he despises him. I thought that Palin derangement syndrome was bad, but compared to the sulfuric acid thrown in Beck’s face ever day, it is nothing.
Well, Ann Coulter was a big supporter of Romoney in 2012 and now she’s a big supporter of the Donald. She must just like the demented, Mormon or not.
