I think Trump should not release his tax returns. Just tell the media to stick it.
If Trump does release his returns, he should have a charismatic tax lawyer or CPA speak for him for any interview. There’s no reason Trump should have to defend himself, given the complexity of taxes, and Trump would be better served to have an expert defending him than trying to do it himself.

Trump has an army of accountants who prepare his returns. He couldn't begin to know what is in his huge filing.
