Last I heard Rubio’s backpeddling defense of the Gang of Eight bill was that the final legislation was never intended to be the unaltered senate version anyway. It was supposed to go to the House and then be modified through compromise, so that it would be acceptable to conservatives in the final version.

Rubio is lying about wanting the bill to be amended. Just the opposite. I have heard interviews with members of Congress who were there. They know. Rubio fought against any and all changes. There were good amendments offered by Sessions, Lee, Cruz, and others that were all rejected by the gang of 8, including Rubio. If he wanted improvements, why did he vote against them?
