Only a minority opinion here, but maybe Christie wants to be a Supreme.
VP is frequently a dead-end slot, but a Supreme shapes the country for the rest of his life.
His 2A position is not solid, but other areas look OK.
SCOTUS is also getting sent to the attic in many aspects. He seems too loquacious to me for that.
