You know, I had the great pleasure of meeting and getting to know the U.S. Enterprise's first Captain after it was commissioned Nuc in 1961, Vice Admiral Vincent Paul de Poix. He was appointed to the position by Admiral Nimitz himself!

He was long retired when I met him and did work for him as an electrician at his home back in 2003 in Albany, Oregon.

You should of seen the pictures on his walls and heard the stories he told.

I feel honored to have met him, a true American Hero!

I think that we both blessed. I met Admiral Nimitz while I was in boot camp in San Diego! He was the guest-of-honor at our boot camp graduation ceremony, April, ‘62. I was in the ‘welcoming committee’ as his limo drove up. He spoke with us lowly white hats. He was a very down-to-Earth- kind of guy!
