Harvard University in the US is going to remove the word "master" from academic titles, after protests from students who claimed the title had echoes of slavery.

House masters, in charge of residential halls at the university, will become known as "faculty deans".

Harvard Law School is also deciding whether to change its official seal, because of links to slavery.

In their college symphony, do they still have a maestro? Are they allowed to use Master locks? Can you be kicked out for being a Master of the Obvious?

What a silly response to a stupid problem. There are millions of kinds of masters. One of them was bad, 150 years ago. Get rid of the title for one that was not? Moronic.

So whats next? No more masters degrees? And furthermore, won’t this be a problem with their BDSM classes being taught on campus?

I guess the endowment fund will have to divest its holdings of MLPs. /S

I read a few years ago that Harvard’s endowment is greater than the GDP of Honduras. Their tax-exempt status is something of a joke since they’re raking in more money than most for-profit corporations.

Eventually liberals will outlaw all of the nouns, pronouns, adverbs, and adjectives in the english language along with the majority of verbs. We’ll be left with a smattering of prepositions and conjunctions to link together strings of f-word interjections in order to communicate.

"Can we also abolish black, white, free, lazy, hard-work, etc.?"

I think they'll make another effort to ban the word 'Dixie' too.

Master a subject is a good thing.
Master's degree is another good thing.
Thousands of common words in the English language have more than one meaning depending on the context.
Shall we abolish all of them because one of the possible meanings denotes something unpopular?

This is just another Liberal attack on English, right out of the 1984 playbook.
Resist it!

Perhaps we should change people in the lunatic asylums for the people in colleges. Their style of thinking seems to have switched.

Much like "ebonics" or barrio "Spanglish."

It's hard to believe that just a century ago, Harvard and the rest of the Ivy Leagues were strongholds of Taft/McKinley conservatism.

Yes, because their sensitive darling students need their Safe Space. Safe Space double-plus good!

So what will they call the degree between a bachelor’s and a doctorate? I propose NSOG... “Non-Slave Owning Graduate” degree.

Maybe they can take a page from “Game of Thrones” and call them “Maester” degrees?

There must be a bunch of white racists in the top echelons of Harvard, bending over to a bunch of black racists.

Only a white racist exhibits ‘white guilt’, only a black racist is offended by the word ‘master’ . A normal person with no racial bias would say ‘WTF ?’ what are you talking about? eliminate the word ‘Master?’ you must be racist.

We should call them out for what they are.

It saddens me to see institutions that are supposed to foment freedom of thought, censoring ideas, words, thoughts, and trying to foster group mentality.

How low has Harvard fallen!

They also removed the term for when you excel at the curriculum. No longer do you “master” the subject; now you “do really good” at it.

When Harvard is pronounced out loud it sounds like “hard-ard’... and ‘hard’ sounds violent. Harvard needs to change their name so they don’t offend those of us who are NOT violent.

I suggest ‘Sofvard’...
