Texas Gov. Greg Abbott will endorse Wednesday one of his political disciples, Ted Cruz, giving the Lone State senator his highest-ranking political endorsement thus far in the presidential race.
Abbott will formally back Cruz at an event Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Houston, campaign officials said, just six days before what is expected to be a competitive race with Donald Trump in Texas. Although not unexpected, the nod from Abbott is the clearest sign yet that the Texas Republican establishment is backing their freshman senator in his presidential ambitions.
"After 8 years of relentless attacks on our values from this White House, it's our duty as Texas conservatives to support a leader we can trust to restore our values and move this country forward," Abbott said in a video message out Wednesday. "That's why I'm supporting Ted Cruz for president."

You Texan?
Tried and True !!!!!!!!!! I bleed Bluebonnets
Awesome! If only we could import Texas values into the White House, this country would become an economic supernova and we could hold onto all of our moral values at the same time.
Instead fake “conservatives” want to import New York values into the White House. Yuck!
“MeanWestTexan”...
Oh, s***!
West Texans are tough enough on their own. Everything out there either pokes, stings or bites.
Now, I’ve met a “mean” one from there.
LOL!
Love you already.
Where in W. Texas? I went to school in Abilene and spend lots of time in the Alpine/Marfa/Big Bend area.
C
Hill country or more north and east?
This may help Cruz in Texas but almost certainly not much elsewhere. After coming in third in both South Carolina and Nevada, Cruz is on the ropes.
SE Texas, fairly near the La. Border....full of swamps, bayous and tall piney woods.
Someone told me had endorsed Rubio!
Sorry Gov. but I will be voting for Trump.
I voted today, and it was the most i had seen in early voting.
Cruz is finally going to win a primary in Texas and its well deserved.
This BS about him being a liar is nonsense, RUBIO is the goddamned LIAR and doesnt have a SINGLE qualification to be President.
All Cruz needs is one of the lawsuits challenging his status to be thrown out and he is in the mix for VP.
Trump picks Rubio for VP and all bets are off.
There is nothing he has said, that they know for sure he will do. They can't even put ink to one thing and make it stick, they have to use a pencil with an eraser. His words are like Mercury, try and pin it down. But, oh he will change when he is elected he said.
That statement by him should put a real scare into anyone, Change into what? But, hey that's OK too......
Their comment back to you, HE "said" he would do this......well ain't that grand. Who's going to make him.
“Trump will probably mock Abbot for being in a wheelchair.”
Sure hope he does! I hope Trump continues to display his true colors.
“Greg Abbott is no Nikki Haley, if thatâs what youâre trying to say.”
how about a Trey Gowdy or a Tim Scott?
Republican turnout is massive this year and that bodes very well for November no matter who the nominee is. I understand and respect that you support Cruz. However, I support Trump and voted for him here in South Carolina where turnout was also big.
We'll see if Cruz is able to win Texas. If he is, he may be able to continue his campaign. If not, I can't imagine how he goes on, especially after coming in third in South Carolina and Nevada.
I’m in South Carolina and I was undecided for a long time, mainly torn between Cruz and Trump although I leaned towards Cruz. I went to numerous events that featured Cruz (and Rubio) and also Trump. But Cruz’s bare knuckle tactics turned me off as it did a lot of South Carolinians and I eventually switched to Trump who I ultimately voted for.
Play H#LL.
Full agreement there. Even with a strong Texas win, Cruz' path to nomination is extremely narrow. It would take a misstep byTrump of epic proportions to think otherwise.
The big question is, who has Bush thrown his support behind? Any endorsements there?
Hey Abbott had no choice. As governor, he has to endorse the Senator from Texas (originally from Canada). It’s not going to change any voter’s minds in or out of Texas.
By the way, is Abbott stopping the illegal Mexicans and Syrians from coming to Texas?
For a mean Texan, so of you folks seem to have a thin hide.
