~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: NAS Pensacola, Florida

Naval Air Station Pensacola or NAS Pensacola, "The Cradle of Naval Aviation", is a United States Navy base located next to Warrington, Florida, a community southwest of the Pensacola city limits.

It is best known as the initial primary training base for all Navy, Marine and Coast Guard aviators and Naval Flight Officers, the advanced training base for most Naval Flight Officers, and as the home base for the United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the precision-flying team known as the Blue Angels.

The air station also hosts the Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) and the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute (NAMI), which provides training for all naval flight surgeons, aviation physiologists, and aviation experimental psychologists.

With the closure of Naval Air Station Memphis in Millington, Tennessee and the transition of that facility to Naval Support Activity Mid-South, NAS Pensacola also became home to the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC), providing technical training schools for nearly all enlisted aircraft maintenance and enlisted aircrew specialties in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard.

NAS Pensacola contains Forrest Sherman Field, home of Training Air Wing SIX, providing undergraduate flight training for all prospective Naval Flight Officers for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps, and flight officers/navigators for other NATO/Allied/Coalition partners. TRAWING SIX consists of the Training Squadron 4 (VT-4) Warbucks, Training Squadron 10 (VT-10) Wildcats and Training Squadron 86 (VT-86) Sabrehawks, flying the T-45C Goshawk, and T-6A Texan II.

A select number of prospective U.S. Air Force Navigator/Combat Systems Officers, destined for certain fighter and bomber aircraft, were previously trained via TRAWING SIX, with command of VT-10 rotating periodically to a USAF officer.

Today, all USAF Undergraduate CSO Training (UCSOT) for all USAF aircraft is consolidated at NAS Pensacola as a strictly USAF organization and operation under the 479th Flying Training Group (479 FTG), an Air Education and Training Command (AETC) unit.

The 479 FTG is a tenant activity at NAS Pensacola and a geographically separated unit (GSU) of the 12th Flying Training Wing (12 FTW) at Randolph AFB, Texas. The 479 FTG operates USAF T-6A Texan II and T-1A Jayhawk aircraft.

Mmmm....sound good! Mine is butterfinger or toffee blizzards.

I don’t get them but very, very rarely, though. :)

In the supermarkets around here they sell “Carnation” powdered malt. It comes in original or chocolate.

I always buy the original AND the chocolate.

I sometimes make my own malts - sometimes original and sometimes chocolate - in the blender and that way I can add things like banana, cherries, strawberries or whichever other delights I might like to add! Sometimes I make a chocolate malt with bananas, cherries, pecans or other nuts and other goodies!

NA - NA - NA - NA - NA! ;-)

I’m kind of mean, huh? Although I may be giving to you good ideas, huh? ;-)

Meany! ;-)
But yeah, those are some good ideas!

Can’t say that I’ve seen the Carnation malt in our stores but I haven’t really looked. Didn’t know they made it. I buy their Instant Breakfast (finishing a glass of it now) but only get the chocolate flavor.

Mom used to make a mean shake or malt when I was a kid. Stringbean that I was, she was always trying to fatten me up. LOL

No blender in the kitchen but I might need to invest in one. That way, when things like this come up in the middle of the night, I can whip something up instead of sitting here drooling.

Counting down the minutes until I head to DQ! Not long now.

Well, I know what to keep my eye out for now. Thanks.
I kinda get tunnel vision when I shop. What we need is on the list and I know where the items are in the store so I grab them and go. No wandering of the eyes. Keeps me from buying a lot more than I went in for. LOL

I think I died and went to Heaven! Oooooh MY, but it’s scrumptious!!!

It’s in the freezer at the moment because I didn’t want to spoil supper. But I took a bite or two (ok, 5 or 6) first and I can’t wait to finish supper so I can chow down on the rest.

So much for Wendy’s and Sonic!

It’s been over 20 years since I ate at DQ.
While waiting for them to whip up the Blizzards (got one for Hubby too), I looked over the menu and was happy to see they still serve fish sandwiches. Everyone else dropped them from their menus a few years ago, though a few still have them during Lent.
Just might have DQ for supper tomorrow!
